Quick Question about Bongo Electronics!

I have notice that when I boost the Treble, I start to get some hissing from around 80 to 100%. It happens on the hi-mids, but it's nowhere near as loud. Is this normal? I love the bass, just want to make sure that this is normal. Thanks!

While there is no "wrong" way to set the preamp, the Bongo's preamp is pretty powerful...a little cut or boost goes a long way. Most basses I have used with an active preamp will get a little hissy if you boost the treble all the way. Unless you are playing through cabs with no tweeters, or tweets turned off, I would recommend against boosting the treble to the maximum on ANY bass, including the Bongo. I wouldn't be too concerned about it being abnormal.

Thanks everyone. I was just curious. This is my first bass with such powerful electronics.

And I never boost it all the way. I've been playing for years so I know that much. Lol.

Since all active basses have that symptom, the cool thing
about a 4-band Boingo, as you seem to have discovered,
is that you don't really need the treble boost cuz you have
two midrange bands, and the not-too-hissy hi-mid band
gives all the punch anyone could want.

I have the same issue with my Bongo HH. Ive been told it's normal and not at all uncommon with active basses.

it has 18db amplification which is more than what is usual. no wonder it hisses when turned up

if the input signal is 1volt peak to peak then:

9db amplification would give out approx 2volt
12db amplification would give out approx 4volt
18db amplification would give out approx 8volt

power in the wrong hands can be dangerous.. just look at what happened to the emperor in starwars

My experience is that you can peel the paint off the walls with the treble boosted to 80%-100%.

On the other hand, I am absolutely comfortable plugging a Bongo into almost any backline because I know the preamp has enough boost/cut range to make it sound good. So I'll take a little noise with the treble boosted really high in those situations where I'm stuck with an amp that needs some high end help.
