Just as the title says. How many springs does the Ernie Ball Music Man Luke I with floyd rose come loaded with? I have 2 in one of my Lukes and 3 in the other and thought I should add or remove on so both are the same. I know the Luke II comes with 2.

Niklas

did luke use 2 spring in the tremolo guitar that he used?(LUKE I)
because he uses 9's as i know..

anyone knows what is the benefit of using 2 springs?(rather than 3 or 5 springs)

You can use as many springs as you like, It just means that the trem will be a lot stiffer to use. Using 2 springs is obviously the minimum you can use, and from memory 2 springs is the factory settings for a Luke with 9's.

thx mr Colin,

does the number of the springs influence the tension? with standard tuning..
and does it make us easier when we do bending?ir it will just influence the tension of the tremolo? thx..

When the trem is in floating mode (e.g. not resting against the body, so you can pull up on it) there's a balance in tension between the strings pulling in one direction, and the springs in the back pulling in the other direction.

If you add a spring, or tighten the claw in the trem cavity, you're going to put more tension on your bridge and it will pull back against the body. So- you won't have a lot of options to keep the bridge floating in the right place. Once you find the balanced position, adding any tension in either direction (heavier string gauge or another spring) will throw it out of balance.

about the balance of the floating bridge(if we change the string size in floating bridge),in my opinion we can arrange that balance trough the screw in the plates which hold the springs..even without adding the number of springs..

so i try to explain my question :
what the diffrence between using 2 spring and using 3 spring in :
- the same size of string : 9's
- the same tuning
- same balance floating bridge(balance adjustment through the screws)

i'm really sorry about my complicated words.. i don't have good english writing ability..

but, one more time.. thank you very much..

I would say try it both ways. Do a setup with 2 and then try 3. Then decide which one you like best on your guitar.
I'm a 9's and two springs guy myself.

Norm's right on the money ... try it both ways. (I also use 9's and two springs.)

Yes, it's possible to use fewer springs and tighten the trem claw to make up the tension. Or, use more springs and loosen the claw to provide less tension.

You'll likely prefer it one way or the other, so try both and see. Or, only one way will work, in which case you'll also have to try and see. ;)
