I have been planning on switching from floor type stompbox bass effects to a rackmount unit. I'll probably stay with stompbox distortion and overdrive, so time and modulation type effects are my prime focus.

What is the best rackmount bass effects unit you fellas have ever used?

Thanks,

K

You mean like a bass pod?? I only use a Sansamp rackmount, no pedals. Another thread has someone asking about pedals and most seem to agree that bass does not need much in the way of effects. I tend to agree with this...

A tuner, and I switched it for a Peterson Strobostomp. Well, two successive ones, actually.

The Rocktron Xpression is is very good. It's a rack mount guitar and bass effect. I don't think it has distortion though. My guitarist uses it, and I like the way it sounds so much that I'll be picking one up soon myself.

Except for the rack mounted Sansamp RBI bass preamp, I went for the stomp boxes. Aside from excessive cost (if you add up all the effects on a board copared to one multi effect unit), the pedals offer several advantages:

1.) you have many options, including the possibility to have as many variations of the same effect as you like (e.g. totally different types of Auto Wah by several manufactureres)

2.) you can add effects as you like

3.) you can exchange effects as you like

4.) they're there! stomp it to make the sound explode!

5.) isn't it just fun... all those tiny shiny colourful boxes :)

No, more like a TC or Lexicon rack unit, or some other instrument or studio type effects units.

I agree, Pedals for bass are not a necessity, however, i do like to expreiment.

Thanks,

I am currently tossing up between the TC Electronic G Major 2 or G-Force.

Tried the g-major 2 on bass and it works great. The G-Force is older but has more programming options, inc the order of the fx sections which the g-major 2 doesn't have.

The G-Major doesn't have a wah effect, but the g-major 2 does and also has the G-System filter section which is great.

So still undecided at the moment, but will be one of the 2

My guitar player once owned the G Major. He got red of it because of its complexity. He also noted that the frequency perameter control may not reach low enough to work on a bass guitar, but he is not sure.

with the fundimentaly clean tone of a bass, would a studio quality effects unit be the ticket?

Thanks,

K
