What an improvement! The guitar respond much better! No loss in sustain at all just greater tone and response. I can highly recomend trying this!
IMO the original pup hight on the axis aint optimal.

I cut a spring that comes with aftermarket humbuckers and used that between body and pickup, worked great, you can adjust the hight and tweak it as much as you want, no limitation. I'll tell ya -it's great. It takes 30 minutes, you will be mad at yourselfe for not trying this earlier :) and it's free too.

Small metal washers will also work well as shims. I've heard people say they've used popcycle sticks too but washers are easier IMO.

Did that on my EVH one time and I didn´t like it too much, lost a lot of air in the sound.
For sure it got more power but I felt the sound was away (for my taste).
But we´re all different in taste. (but why are we then all playing EBMM????- oh they´re great guitars I forgot:))
