Randy Jackson on bass...is it a Stingray?

While perusing the liner notes of some old CDs in my collection I came across Stryper's "Against the Law", released in 1990, and saw that Randy Jackson played bass on what I think is a pretty good cover of Earth, Wind, and Fire's "Shining Star" and wondered if it's a Stingray that Randy's playing.

I couldn't find any info to confirm or deny, so I thought I would call on the trained ears of the knucklehead collective.

Randy Jackson was known to play Stingrays back then and is still occasionally seen with Stingrays, so it wouldn't be a huge shock if that were a 'Ray.

I had never even heard of Randy Jackson before Idol. It's really hard for me to picture "Yo Dawg" playing with groups like Journey and Stryper...granted the Stryper thing was probably just a studio gig.

I saw him playing on a TV awards show with Mariah Carey and he was playing a modest black SR5 with a maple neck and non-matching headstock. So me thinks here is a guy that could have any bass on the planet and be seen with it on big time national tv and he chooses to be modest. He's a great player and probably a cool dude.

It's funny, I hear that alot from other bassists (about people never hearing of him before). He even wrote articles for Bass Player mag for several years too.

Randy was a big time session musician before he went on to producer and then record company executive. He still plays which is great.
He's recorded for Mariah, Faith Hill, and so many others, and when you hear that Young Guns song from John Bon Jovi, that is him playing bass.

WOW ! Stryper ? THat really blows me away. I used to listen to alot of there stuff. They were "Big" back in the day. They wore those black and yellow leather outfits and that guy sings awesome, and great double leads. I think "To Hell with the Devil" was kick ass. I never would have associated Randy with them at all
