Help! Ray CA 24 bridge question

Hi. Im new to the forum and have just added a Ray 24CA to my previous SUB4. (working my way up through the range).

I have a question. The bridge is fixed by 3 screws, but there are also 2 lugs either side of the saddles. They appear to serve no other purpose than as additional fixings. Or am I missing something?

The two side bolts mainly aid in preventing the string saddles moving side ways.
