Re-issue Stingray's, yes or no?

hello to all you Stingray users out there!

i'm quiete interested in the next thing:

if you had the choice, would you prefer to buy a modern new Stingray,

or would you prefer an old Stingray from the 70's?

and because these old Stingray's a very hard to find (because strangely enough no one wants to get rid of those basses ), i've been trying to let the bells ring at the musicman factory with the idea of starting a re-issue line!

....but so far, no good

so if there are enough people out there that share my wishes, which is to have re-issue Stingray's available, please help me and yourself by letting the musicman factory know what we, the clients, truly want!

interesting question. Probably a valid offering I have just been reluctant because it seems to be the most common form of research and development in our industry...maybe someday but I proably will keep trying new things first

I've dabbled with 4+n string basses, and while they do have some cool characteristics, I just never seem to escape the gravity of a good 'ol 4 banger. My motto in response to the "extended range bass" concept is, "explore more with 4!".

This suggestion of an SR6 does raise a question in my mind - a question for BP. Was there a specific reason you chose the Bongo as the first & only (so far) bass to offer as a 6'er? Was it perhaps to leverage that feature as a selling point for the Bongo specifically?

Good question...OK, who are we kidding...hijack. Everyone seems to be quick to point to John Myung on this subject, but I for one am still curious.

I don't see much of a point in a re-issue. The mutes were kind of worthless, and 3-bolt necks are horrible.

Plus you can still order a 2-band EQ if you are looking for the sound.

i would like to have some mutes on my stingray.
maybe you can get a fretless like tone out of them, like on a rick. (don't know. have only played a stingray with mutes for about 5 minutes)

but yes its true, you still can order a 2band for some oldschoolstyle. and the stringthrough is overrated...

I care not for reissues.

Yes, yes, I have a 61 RI Jazz bass, but I don't play it. I was hoping it would be more like the Jazz basses of old.....ah well, it's close.

But a reissue Stingray? Nah, I've had 70s era Stingrays. If I really loved them more than the modern instruments, I'd still have one. I know, I know, some guys truly prefer the pre-EB basses....and I'm not going to try to tell them they're wrong.

You dig what you dig. Nobody has to justify that kind of thing.

But I like the fact that BP and the crew keep looking forward.

(If I were really mean, I'd say that some companies shot their wad pre-1965, but I'm not like that.)

Re-issued was clothes where I grew up. My uncles always had some reissued shirts.

I'd say it's only worth it if the vintage market for Music Man gets as insane price-wise as it is for Fenders.

I would buy a '76 re-issue before anything else on my GAS list.
VSB/Maple, 2EQ epoxy pre, Mutes, radio knobs, sting-thru . . 14lbs
I'd even sacrifice the wonderful capstan trusswheel for the
old headstock truss rod adj and skunkstrp - to be period correct...

Such an offering would be no better than the modern SR4 but who cares,
It would be a must have for me (and I'm sure there'd be a long waiting list)

I have both and treat them as different animals
in saying that I prefer the new EBs than my pre-EBs

The only time I understand the re-issue thing is when I meet a guy and he had an original 63 jazz Bass and was scared of getting it stolen so he bought a re-issue to gig with.

I look at this way would you drive a reissue of a 40s car with no cd player, aircon, ABS, power steering etc, or prefer the new modern cars?

That would depend on the car.
