Ernie Ball Music Man Celebrates 30 years of the StingRay, 20 Years of the Silhouette and a New Limited Edition Package for 2006

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (December 7, 2005) -- Celebrating the popularity of
the StingRay bass and Silhouette guitar, two new anniversary edition
instruments will be offered in 2006. Blending original features with
modern improvements, these new models will debut at the 2006 Winter NAMM
show, taking place January 19-22 in Anaheim, CA.

 StingRay
The 30th Anniversary StingRay will feature a mahogany body (a first for
any Music Man production instrument) with a translucent red finish,
figured maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Tipping its hat to the
original design, Music Man will offer a strings-thru-the body bridge,
along with a buffed polyester finish on the back of the neck. At the
heart of this Anniversary model is the distinctive Music Man humbucking
pickup and 3 band EQ, providing bassists the widest possible frequency
response and a fat full sound. A special custom-made neckplate will
commemorate this bass, along with custom 30th Anniversary logo and
graphics.

 Silhouette
The 20th Anniversary Silhouette will feature a figured maple top with a
3-ply black, natural, black veneer underneath. Standard features include
a maple neck with the option of a rosewood or maple fingerboard and
Music Man Vintage Tremolo or fixed bridge. It also includes rear-mounted
electronics, buttercream position markers, a custom neck plate and 20th
Anniversary logo.

 Limited Edition
Music Man introduces its 4th installment of its special-run Limited
Edition series with an all black finish and custom gold hardware
package. Available for a limited time only, this latest offering
includes all Music Man models except for the SUB series, Silhouette
Bass, Steve Morse Y2D, Benji Madden signature and all left-handed
instruments. Gold hardware includes the bridge, tuning keys, neck plate,
tremolo arms, control knobs and pickguard screws. An all black headstock
with a gold Music Man logo will match the hardware and overall theme.
These Limited Edition instruments will also feature a special 2006
Limited Edition gold silkscreen just below the neckplate. A custom
pickguard, rosewood fretboard and Limited Edition case will round out
the package.

“Music Man enthusiasts are drawn to the allure of special run
instruments, as there are only limited amounts available in 2006,” said
Derek Brooks of Ernie Ball. “These special runs are very popular among
the growing base of Music man collectors.”

Personally I think I will NOT bother with a 30yr Ray unless I decide to buy it and lock it in its case for 30 more years as an investment and then sell it for a profit. But I play it, not collect it, so probably I won't... Having the $ I would probably go for a SWR Red Head combo instead...

First of all I prefer 2eq (warm although twangy), but the major drawback for my years would be the mahogany body that would be heavy and far too midrangey for my taste (I suspect my 2eq red trans 1989 is ash being so light).

So they are all yours...

I'm pretty sure the comment was regarding the Bongo 30th in about 27 years. I think in this case, the 30th Anniv only applies to the Stingray (since it's the one that is 30 years old).

Still freakin sweet!!

So, do these announcements mean that Jack is out of secrets (at least the big ones)?

Someone should check on him to make sure he's doing OK....

I think they suckered him to DC to torture him for BP's LE and Anniv. secrets. They didn't realize they just had to wait for some press releases. Hopefully Jack's body will wash up somewhere, no worse for wear but maybe a little more pickeled.

Hey Big Poppa

There's no need for that, unless in the forum you have to agree with the moderator by decree...

All was based on my past experiences with mahogany: other things being equal, I find it more midrangey, so I just will not bother with it, period. But if you still insist, you can send me a new Ray 30yr, I'll play it as you kindly suggest and then I can tell you about it for free.

Cheers

IMHO mahogany body will be great for a Stingray as long as it will be a nicely selected LIGHT mahogany.
Mahogany is not that midrangey, it's also not the type of wood that will filter out lows and highs. Now, since most of us roll back a little on the the bass and treble knobs... I imagine that the mahogany will increase the mids just enough to make the full boost sound less "hollow" and therefore giving a better headroom for the desired warm tone. I wish it was 2 EQ though... I like those old style preamps and I believe they will be a better match for a string through original design.
BTW, is it going to have the old style bridge with the mutes?
I wish the local dealer here in Israel will get one so I'll be able to give it try, but I highly doubt it.... I'll have to trust BP's and forum members opinion before ordering one. Yammy ;)
