Is the 30th Ann Stingray going to be available as a 5 string, or is it only going to be available in 4 string since that's all that was available 30 years ago? I can resist a 4 string trans red/mahogany SR, but I dont know if I can handle the temptation of a 5 string with the mentioned specs...

First of all I prefer 2eq (warm although twangy), but the major drawback for my years would be the mahogany body that would be heavy and far too midrangey for my taste (I suspect my 2eq red trans 1989 is ash being so light).

Most stingrays are ash. It has a pretty wide variation in weight.

As does mahogany.

Hey Big Poppa

There's no need for that, unless in the forum you have to agree with the moderator by decree...

All was based on my past experiences with mahogany: other things being equal, I find it more midrangey, so I just will not bother with it, period. But if you still insist, you can send me a new Ray 30yr, I'll play it as you kindly suggest and then I can tell you about it for free.

Cheers

He was just asking you to have an open mind. In my past experiences with douchebags, they are the first to complain and last to put down the money when they get their way. You brought up the SWR Redhead, what are you playing through now?

I do not gig anymore so I just use a low cost Laney, more than enough for practising without bringing the house down. Noticed the Bergantino in your avatar, very nice cabinets in my opinion.

Listen...you are entitled to your opinion and have the right to disagree...I take it that I cant offer a rebuttal to your opinion...It goes both ways. I completely accept and respect a dissenting opinion provided it is based on fact. My message is it very well could not be for you...but you never say never in life. What would happen if you played one and actually liked it and then read your post?

Look to prove it we have the Dude owning a Bongo!!!!!!! He hated it and gave it a chance and now actually likes it.

stick around and have some fun and its ok for you to disagree as long as we can disagree with you

happy holidays!

I thoroughly agree with you, as forums are there to exchange personal opinions based on personal experiences. So I am actually looking forward to hearing comments, provided they are not dismissive. In fact I have just learnt from some of you that mahogany can be lighter and less midrangey in some instances, so I started to wonder what was "wrong" for my ears with that wood!

Unfortunately the chances for me to try a Ray Anniversary without ordering one in the first place are pretty slim. In an ideal world where money is no object I would order one anyway, and if I do not like I can stick under the bed for another era. But in the real world (well, mine at least) where $ is a limited resource I have to prioritise and try not to make the same "mistake" (for my ears) again, so that having the dosh available I'd go for the amp instead. Or for a clean nice pre-EB Ray, usually for roughly the same price. But I am genuinely happy for those of you who just cannot wait for the Ray30 to come out, really!!

Hope all is clear, it was not my intention to create misunderstandings or havoc. But the Bongo... !!??!! Now that is too much... I have to draw the line somewhere... ;) ;) Dude, how did you manage? Any trauma? :D

Merry Xmas everyone

Well then... the mahogany Bongo that was displayed at the EBMM Open House in September would have blown your mind! :D

I still think it is the single most beautiful instrument I've seen! There's a pic of it around here somewhere...

I am thining they are just talking SR4 guys.

That was the deal with the 20th Anniversary, so you're probably correct. In any event, I'm sure it's going to be a stunning instrument with a unique tone.

Trans red 30 yr Ray? Cool enuf. Will there be a package offered? A red gig bag is OK, but a red HD130 tube head? With a matching 1x12? Now *that's* an anniversary present.

You do realize who BP is, don't you? You can take his opinion as fact as it relates to EBMM basses!

I think I'll save my pennies for a 30th, if I can do it without getting a divorce. I still have a Buttercream SR4 on the way, afterall :)

You know, those of us who have been here for a while and those of us who have met Big Poppa in person tend to forget that everyone doesn't know that he is actually the guy that owns the company. How many other company of this size have forums in which the owner participates?

Anyway, it's great to have Sterling Ball here among us and have access to his knowledge and expertise as well as all of the good people at EBMM who post here.

No, I did not know who BP is and it is a privilege indeed that The Boss takes time to answer.

By now you should know from my posts that I am absolutely mad about my Ray, simply - because of personal preferences and taste - I am less anxious about others of the company's products. Although it was not my intention to "argue" directly with the boss, I believe I have expressed my opinions without being disrespectful or attacking/insulting anybody, Big Poppa came back to me, I explained and I like to think that everything is clear now.

So if I am still allowed to consider myself "one of you" in the spirit of a free forum and in accordance with the principle of reciprocal personal respect, I will keep considering BP as "one of us" even if he's Number One, knowing from his reply earlier that he will always take the occasional less favourable comment as well as the much deserved praises.

Now maybe I have just dug my grave myself, I don't know, so if a ban for treason is coming so let be it... I'll just finish ranting saying:
