i was look twords a Peavey Triple XXX

any opionins on ther Triple XXX

All of these groups are "classic rock". I have a PV Classic 100 and it nails this kind of music but has enough gain for pinch harmonics and such. It isn't a high gain amp but there is a lot of very usable gain at your disposal. And the clean channel rivals that of a Bassman.

The Classic 50 is the same amp with less power tubes and there are more of them around since they've made them longer. And it won't even begin to stretch your budget.

what other cabs are a good choice

There are so many out there. Mesa, Orange and Bogner cabs are superb. Marshall cabs are very good. Peavey, Kustom and Fender cabs are pretty ordinary. A good alternative is the Avatar Speaker cabs. Check their website but do not expect Mesa or Bogner quality.

Check my sig, you can listen to clips comparing different Celestion speakers. I like the G12H overall. I also like the punchiness of the G12T, it's a pretty well balanced speaker. I do not like the vintage30 on its own but mixed with G12T it brings more mids upfront.

Other cab

Believe it or not, I have a cheap-o Behringer BG412S cab and it sounds great.
This is the slant cab that can be run mono or stereo. The speakers are angled differently than an ordinary 4x12 slant cab to give a better stereo image.

This particular Behringer model has Jensen speakers in it.

You can buy one NEW for around $250 so it's a steal. It handles all the power of the XXX without distorting or breaking up.

And it sounds a lot better than the Peavey XXX cab, IMHO.

Go to your favorite music store(s), try everything with your favorite axe (EBMM of course), buy what suits you best. It may not be one that's been listed yet. Good Luck :)

I haven't ever tried out a XXX, but with some of the opinions I've seen here I think it's way past time that I check one out. The best sounding half stack I ever owned by the way was an early model Soldano HR50+ and a Soldano 412 cab. The thing just rocked, clean or crunch. :D

The JSX can do the XXX thing and more. With a JSX, you won't miss anything a XXX can do because you'll have it.

I tried the JSX before I bought my XXX.

There were just a few things I didn't like about it:

1) the clean channel distorted a little on the one I played when using my JP6. Coulda been just that one head, but it did break up for me if I didn't roll back the volume pot on the guitar. I don't have to do this when playing my JP through any of my other amps.

2) the amp was REALLY noisy (to my ears), and desperately needs the built-in noise gate.

3) I couldn't crank it up and stand within 15 feet of the cab without untame-able feedback (with the crunch and solo channels configured to my liking).

While it wasn't for me, it was still a really nice head. I did play it thru the corresponding Peavey 4x12 cab, for what it's worth. The JSX was based on the XXX and tweaked out to Satch's liking.

I never tried the XXX before i purchased my JSX. I agree with the comments made by SteveB.

- The JSX is noisy. I found the built in Noise gate insufficient. I use a Gmajor in the loop.

- The amp has ridiculous amount of gain and compresses alot, so you need a very disciplined picking hand if you don't want to go in major uncontrolled feedback at high volumes.

I have worked around those issues easily, but they may be problematic to some. Apart from that, i think the JSX is a monster and is certainly one of the best amps, with the XXX, in their price range.

I've heard good things about the Peavey ValveKing series as well. They're all-tube, Chinese made (don't know if you're die hard USA made amps). They have a 50W 112, a 100W 212, and a 100W head. They've also got an AB texture feature.

Marshalls are great - I've had a 50 watt for years - but this will struggle if the rest of the band are cranking up as well!

I'd love to try a Rivera but over here they are mucho expensive- if your in the USA then Mesa gear would be hard to beat.

Just try out a whole bunch or better still if you have some mates with something you fancy ask if you can try their rig out (loud- move the air!)

Behringer make good (very good) budget kit too!
Good luck and tell us what you get.

Just don't buy anything from Behringer with an amplifier in it... a lot of their amplified products tend to spontaneously combust. But don't take my word for it, ask any Behringer dealer. Their powered mixer, powered monitors.. anything with a power amp in it... they've had problems with fires.

Their other stuff is decent though.
