While we're on this, I'll throw my hat in the ring and say Guytron GT100-FV. Bought one at Tommy's recommendation, and it's seriously the best amp I've ever played through. Cleans are fantastic and the higher gain channel is incredible. Gets every sound I ever wanted. It also sounds fantastic at lower volumes so you don't need to move a lot of air to get the fully cranked up sounds.

Holy $&%# !!
This amp looks sweet ! The price tag is kinda steep though. But it definitely seems like an incredible amp. When you crank channel A can you get a breakup tone (plexi) ?

rather than start a new topic i shall resurrect this one i have come down to three finalists after playing them. The Peavey Triple XXX,with matching cab, Marshall JCM2000 Dual Super Lead 100 with a 1960a cab, or the one i have not been able to Carvin V3 with matching cab. The V3 i cannot try out but it looks well built also it sounds pretty good from its sound clips avalible off their site

here is the link to the sound clips for the V3

Yup- it get's a really nice Plexi sound! Only drawback is the price. Though, you do see a few of these around used on the gear page and ebay. However, nice to know I won't be spending any more money on another amp again ;)

Just don't buy anything from Behringer with an amplifier in it... a lot of their amplified products tend to spontaneously combust. But don't take my word for it, ask any Behringer dealer. Their powered mixer, powered monitors.. anything with a power amp in it... they've had problems with fires.

Their other stuff is decent though.
.... so did my Marshall (twice).

Shoot, my mate will be mortified, he's just gone out and bought a 12.5 K Behringer Rig !!!
I guess they don't like US voltage - 'cos they don't seem to have that reputation over here.

Yeah, true, it ain't cheap (NB- I didn't pay that). But there are a few kicking around second hand for closer to $2k. It's in the same territory as some of the other boutique amps. The CAE OD-100 is about the same, and I was down to those two for choices.

Ya know Beej, I didn't even get a hit for it on Google UK - sounds like the amp "means business"!!!

Thanks. These amp seem much more interesting to me than most boutique amps.
I am going to keep an eye out for one of those at a fair price.

I went out at the weekend and tried what I can only describe as the best amp I have ever heard.

Custom Audio Amplifiers OD-100 (John Suhr now makes them rather than Bob Bradshaw)

A clean channel which outdoes a decent Fender, sparkly to Stevie Ray, loves pedals.

Channel 2 is just ultimate hot rodded Marshall - I got the best thrash metal sound, the best AC/DC sound, the best Petrucci style sound.

Tube buffered FX loop. Boost on Channel 2 you can alter by an internal preset.

It was the Sh*t!

If you buy one new in the UK then you have to go to Sounds Great and IIRC the retail is about £2300ish.

I tried one round at Matt Priors house (Session guitarist and a friend of a friend)

The AER is worth saving for.

If you are after a new amp then I am selling a couple to pay for the CAA.

It's a sweet amp alright- I played one years ago and loved it. (I was down to it and the Guytron when I made my choice.) Certainly sounds better when Scott Henderson plays it then when I did :p

They guy can play thats for sure - BUT - I wish there was a Scott Henderson Suhr guitar with a hardtail - I feel like shouting "step away from the wang bar Mr Henderson" - every phrase does not need to start with a whammy bar scoop!

:) :)

Waaaaaah ?

I camt be doing with constant maintainence, unreliable valves, weight, inconsistant tone from venue to venue etc.

If I had a hoard of roadies at my finger tips I would still use them, but doing 3 gigs a week its a hassle I can do without!
