Please :)

I haven't heard much Toto, *ashamed* :D, but I'd really like to. This one time I was in a music shop, and the owner (who is a really nice guy, and always gives me discounts :D) started talking to me about Toto, and put a CD in, but I don't recall much 'cause I was really into playing that LP knock-off at that point! :o

So, recommend me some classics, some good stuff, and tell me if they have any videos or live videos or something :)

Thanks

BTW What guitar did Lukather play before the EBMM Luke?

My personal favorite is 'Hydra' (second album ~ 1979).

Great guitar work, and a worthy sophmore follow-up.

Thank you

Anyone have an idea what songs I could find newer live videos for?

Just pick an album and go on from there.

I can't recommend just one or even two, just start somewhere and don't stop until you have them all.

Then branch out from Toto and check all of the Toto members solo stuff.

So much talent.

Toto's music is so diverse, it's hard to pick a starting point. From a historical perspective, you'd want to start with the first album--Toto (1978)--which was very keyboard oriented.

If you love guitar-based rock, check out Kingdom of Desire (1992). Luke is absolutely all over that album; the keyboard work is very minimal.

If you are looking for more radio-friendly stuff, I suggest Fahrenheit (1986) or Toto IV (1982).

Prior to EBMM, I think Luke's main guitar was by Valley Arts, with a "robot" painted on the body, some very funky artwork. He's been using EMGs since at least 1981.

Depends on what type of music you want to listen to, Toto can't really be put into one catergory, for more rocker type album, Kingdom of Desire or Tambu (i would recommend these 2 albums as they are my personal favs). You could wait until their new album comes out, it sounds fantastic there are some samples on www.stevelukather.net.

As for guitars, Luke used Valley Arts before EBMM, he also had an Ibanez Sign. model at one stage, plus he's used Gibson's fenders etc etc.

Scott.

I wondered how long it would take you to get on this one Scott, as Australia's resident expert for all things Lukather your opinion is needed.

I might see if I can pick up that Kingdom of desire one as it seems to be quite popular. I've been listening to Hydra this evening - it's fantastic!!!

I wish I had 1/100th of Luke's abilities...

I have KOD here if you want to hear it. Good guitar album, I think Luke sings on it too from memory.

Wow Col, I Didn't realise you had any Toto. Whenever I've looked through your CD collection all I've ever seen is Mariah Carey and that large collection of German Polka music.

hehe, thanks bro, you haven't heard Kingdom of Desire yet? you need to get it asap, if you get a chance too, pick up Tambu, it's on the same line as Kingdom, but more evolved.
