I know there are guidelines for what gauge of strings you should use for different tunings.

I'm getting into alot of drop D and drop C/C# tunings lately, but I know my usual 9-42 Slinkys will flap like wet noodles.

Any suggestions out there??

I have three JP's set up this way....

Standard E - 9's

Dropped D - 10's

Dropped C - 11's

Works for me.....I don't know the "rules", but I am one that usually doesn't follow them anyway....I march to the beat of a different drummer (that can't seem to keep the beat...LOL).

Thanks for the tip. I remember reading (either on a forum or in a magazine) that you go up a gauge for each step you drop the tuning. That's why I said "guidelines".

On my Wolfgang, I used 9-42's, but I put a heavier gauge string on the low-E. That way, when I flipped the D-Tuna, the string wasn't too slack.
