Evenin' all,

Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on a problem I have, would be appreciated. I've owned a Musicman Sterling bass for the last few years, and through a combination of general play and hot venues, the finish has started to come off the back of the neck in some places...

Not really too fussed about the way this looks, but after gigs and rehearsals Im noticing the the wood feels a bit damp, just worried that if too much moisture gets into the wood it could lead to the neck warping. Anyone else experienced this?

Asked my teacher about it and he said not to worry, just wondered if anyone could recommend a product, a type of oil or varnish for example, that could be rubbed onto the wood to help protect it a bit. Any suggestions?

Thanks...

My recomendation?..... rub the neck lightly with 0000 steel wool to get rid of the dirt (only if it's too dirty), then a little tru oil or boiled linseed oil to help mantain the neck, and then a little wax to protect it.
It should feel like new.
Welcome to the forum.

I just lemon oiled my dirty maple neck, and now it looks great. It still feels like the original finish, but with added smoothness.

From the FAQ:

Some discoloration after many hours of playing is normal on unfinished necks.

Should you clean and wax an unfinished neck on a new music man?

Thanks
Matt
