hehe, maybe not that tragic but somewhere close. There were no monitors on stage so hearing your vocals was non-existant. Also drummer lost his stick for a moment and had to take another. I turned down my volume (I had a strat back then so it was really easy to happen) and I didn't notice it :p

To quote Satch...
"It's a blessing to be tone deaf when you just started out playing guitar, you don't know how much you suck..."

Love it! Got to give them credit for stepping up.

My first gig wasn’t nearly as exuberant or tragic. I played trumpet.

I remember my first gig.

We were all 14. Our first school band - 'Torquemada'!

It was the other guitarists sisters school end of term disco. We played about 5 songs (Sabbath / AC/DC / Status Quo you know the sort of thing)

They either ran for the exit or stood there with their fingers in their ears!

Actually, come to think of it, not that much has changed.......:D

First Gig was not as bad as this one lol. But the second one really sucked, the dreamer didn't show up on time cause he went to see Johny Clegg ah ah ah ...

We were called "Los Craignos" though (maybe only french speaker can understand this one ;) ).

Nice memories but we are lucky cause only photos remain from that period :D

My first gig was with a band call "GIO" (rhymes with "DIO" and chosen because our singer was called Giovanni). However we were announced as "G ten" - an understandable mistake!

First song was Bark at the Moon. However seconds before we started they filled the stage with dry ice and I couldn't even see my hands or the fretboard, which made things tricky. My guitar sounded absolutely horrendous through the whole gig - not just bad but hideously appalling. Found out later that I'd played the whole set of supposedly ripping metal with my tone control on zero!

It was great though. Took me hours to calm down from the buzz and I got hooked on gigging from that point onward.

I remember my first rock gig (although I had been playing at church for years). It was a great experience. It was this local battle of the bands and my friend and I signed up. We had a week to get it together and find a bass and singer. We played Anthem by Rush, The Heckler by Primus, House of Pain by Van Halen and Time's Up by Living Colour. It was a fun little show and I used to know someone who had a video of it. I would die to see it again. We won second place, so we were thrilled.

1982, Crystal City on 86st street in Brooklyn, NY. We were called EKG. Played some Kinks, Billy Idol, Rush, originals. I have a video tape of it still, pretty funny. I was about 130 pounds back then, I looked like a skinny chicken-boy. If I ever find some pics, I'll scan-n-post 'em.

My first gig went down like this.. my band was practicing at our bass player (Scott Riebling) 's house. There were some hot girls (the Zikesh sisters) who lived sorta 'behind' Scott's house, but you had to cut through a tract of woods.

Somehow, while we were practicing, we got wind of a party at the Zikesh house, and were invited to play at the party. I remember running through the woods in the dark with our gear in tow, hahaha... drums, amps.. ah, to be that young again!

I swear we were set up over at the party within 15 minutes! We played what little material we had, people seemed to like it. I don't remember much more except that it was fun and scary all at once.

Anyway, Scott had the balls to follow the musical path and played in a band called Letters to Cleo. Maybe some of you know of that band. Nowadays, I believe he's a music producer in some Boston-area studio... supposed to be really good, too. Knowing Scott, I'm sure he is a kick-butt producer.

My first gig (that I can remember at least) was with some cover band when I was about 15 or 16 at a teen club. I think the name was Axis (or something ridiculous) and we covered a bunch of typical 80's metal tunes; Judas Priest (Headin' Out to the Highway, Desert Plains, Breakin' the Law, You've Got Another Thing Comin'), KISS (Detroit Rock City), Iron Maiden (Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast), I think some Dokken and Ratt even. :)

It went okay. I vaguely remember singing for some reason, not sure why. I remember a lot of people there and no one threw anything at me, so I guess it went okay. ;)
