Hey everyone,

I just recently bought a Sterling JP100 in Transblack, I was planning on using it as a backup guitar. It comes with the JP knobs found on the actual JP6. Now I've read the FAQ on the guitar and how to remove the knob, however when I look at the knobs I can't locate the grommet ( I know it's there because the knob is snug as heck on the pot). :(

Any help would be appreciated! I would be more than glad to provide pictures as well!

Hi and welcome.
Around the perimeter of the knob is a thin black rubber band with knurls on it. You have to carefully prise that off which will then reveal a grub screw to slacken off. The knob will then slide off.

When you say it around the perimeter do you mean it's around the shaft of the pot? I've attempted to pull up on the knob slightly to see if it exposes it but I still am unable to see the grommet at all.

It's the knurled rubber ring around the knob itself. Once you get that off you can access the hex screw.

The JP100 knobs are not the same as found on the JP6.

The knobs can be pulled up like any other push on knob - there is no rubber grommet. The pots are a split shaft knurled type of pot and the knobs are pushed on, pulled off. Place a cloth under the knobs and try pulling up gently

And that's what you get for not reading the fine print...

I saw "musicman JP model" and didn't bother to read the post in detail, my apologies and thanks Pat for jumping in with the right info.

Thank you everyone :D I really appreciate all your help especially Pat, spudmurphy, and fsmith. Regardless of being misinformed about the guitars you all did an incredible job in assisting me. I really appreciate it and sorry about the misinformation!

Pat was spot on about how to remove them! :)
