Hi, is it difficult to change the pickup switch in JP6? It's soldered into PCB board, so I was wondering if it's difficult to remove the old one?

The main problem is that the pickup selector switch in my new JP6 (got it this Tuesday) has some mechanical problems, it gets stucked sometimes so that I have to use quite much force to change the position from bridge to middle position, and also in the neck position the tip is not always reaching it's "end position".

Yep, I know that I will get it replaced by the dealer, but due to the timetable I have to analyze different options available. I have a gig next Saturday where I want to use the guitar, but this small problem worries me.

I have one extra 4dpt switch, and I have done some modifications to older guitars, so I think it's not a problem to change it by myself, but that PCB board (de)soldering is new to me.

Have any of you done this procedure?

Ps. Yes, I have contacted CS already about this and I'll get their answer maybe tomorrow, but if it's quite easy to change it, I could first assemble my own extra switch and later get the real replacement part from EBMM and get it replaced by local luthier (organized by the dealer who sold the guitar).

Edit: It actually seems that my 4pdt switch isn't Dimarzio EP1111, and if I remember correctly it has different pole connections, so I can't use that with PCB board (when I used same switch with my OLP to get middle coil split mode, I had to measure connections in each position and modify the JP6 wiring a bit). :(

Does anyone have the "pole connection diagram" of the EP1111?

My 4pdt switch connects the poles like this:

pos1: : pos2: : pos3:
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o

Is it possible that EP1111 works like this?:

pos1: : pos2: : pos3:
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o

I personally would refrain from changing the switch, dude. It probably will void your warranty, which wouldn't be a good thing. Wait until you can get it to an authorized tech. Just my .02 though.

Yep, might be true. Tomorrow I'll contact the shop where I bought the guitar, and I know the guy who is their authorized tech EBMM (he did set up my old Hamer couple years ago), so only problem is getting the right part within a week. I know that EBMM CS is more than happy to send the part, but it takes time to get it here (I live in Finland).

I actually noticed that my switch is Ibanez version which was used in JPM, and I think it differs a bit from EP1111. Just wondering, is EP1111 always including the PCB board automatically?

Oh darn, you're in Finland. Still man, just make due if you can. I'd hate to see a fellow JP owner lose their warranty for something such as this. Do you have another guitar?

Fortunately I have my trusted OLP MM1 with the same wiring setup and it has served me well, so it's gonna my backup in future even after I get my JP6 fixed. At the moment I can use JP6, it only a bit frightening that the problem seems to be getting worse. I don't what is causing that, there might be a small piece of metal jamming the moving part inside of the switch, 'cause sometimes it works just fine and sometimes the toggle won't move without using force.

The best thing you can do is to contact Customer Service ...

Yep, done that, just that I'll get their answer maybe tomorrow, so I was wondering my options to secure the usage of this magnificent instrument also on next weekend's gig. For example if some EBMM dealer in Europe would see this so that I might get the part sooner, I don't know. I assume that EBMM CS would be also quite happy if this type of help from some european shop is available, 'cause clearly their target is to secure that all EBMM instrument owners are happy.

So, I contacted the shop, and they are ordering the new part. They had no idea how long it might take to get it, so also asked about the possibility to install my own switch now and then replace it with the new one later. They said that it would void the warranty (like I expected), but if their own tech does it, the warranty issue is ok. This sounded ok to me, so I called to the luthier, and he will replace the faulty switch with my Ibanez version, and after the shop gets the actual replacement part (with PCB-board) he will assemble that. Really nice, this way I'm gonna get it fixed this week before the gig. :)

E: Gotta say that I'm quite lucky, I also contacted the company who imports Dimarzio and Ibanez parts, and they didn't have neither of these switches available. Luckily I bought mine about a year ago....

Gotta continue this "almost monologue thread" once more:

Still no answer from EBMM CS, although I did receive answer from Dimarzio within 6 hours, and I got confirmation about the EP1111 pole setup:

I'm gonna add it here if anyone needs it:

pos1: : pos2: : pos3:
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o
o-o o : o-o o : o o-o
o-o o : o o-o : o o-o

So there's a minor difference compared to Ibanez version.

But the most important thing is that I'll get my guitar fixed by authorized local luthier this week, so I'm happy.

Bye.
