The Floyd Rose on my EVH is corroded to the point where the fine tuners don't work well--as well as looking terrible.

EBMM told me that the Gotoh FRs are no longer made and that they would sell me one like they use on the Axis for USD250. However, I'd like to keep my EVH stock.

My friend owns a metal working company and has offered to replate it for me, for free. Has anyone ever attempted this with a floyd rose?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Anyone? I'm having a really difficult time getting info on plating anywhere. I've got a non-EBMM guitar with a gold Floyd Rose that needs replating also. . . .

Should be fine replating it from a cosmetic point of view. I'm more worried about the corrosion as simply plating over it wont solve the fine tuner problems....

WD Music products stock the Gotoh Floyd, maybe they still have one in stock?

But that aside the guy in the ebay ad states that the EVH saddles are offset compared to those on the Gotoh so maybe it won't do u any good anyway.

But if Gotoh don't make them anymore...what are EBMM using on the new Axis guitars??? Schaller maybe???

Thanks for the heads up. I just sent the seller a message asking if he'll send to Japan. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

You guys are great! I mean with the EBMMs, I'd be happy just to be able to play great guitars, but the user support is great. I love this forum.

Offset Prob

You have to replace the whole trem, don´t woory about the offset saddles on the EVH. The only prob is that the new saddles won´t fit on the old base plate.
You have to go for the whole job.
Did that too, that ´s why I know.

Did you "replate" or "replace" the whole thing?

I just disassembled the entire trem to give to my friend Monday. I'm wondering if the hinge on the saddles is a problem, also I can't get the little "string blocks" (or whatever they're called) out. Replating may be out of the question.

As for replacing the saddles, like you said the saddles are offset compared to the ones on my Axes. I would have to go for the whole thing.

And the eBay guy isn't answering my mail. Most of the time I love living in Japan, but it's like pulling teeth to get anything on eBay.

Again, thanks for all the help.

I just gave my friend the pieces of the EVH trem and a gold one from one of my other guitars.

I was wondering about what would happen to the hinge on the saddles. It wouldn't be good for them to be frozen in place. The little blocks that hold the strings wouldn't come out of the EVH trem either. Before plating, I guess they put the parts in some kind of acid bath to get rid of the corrosion. They may come out after that.

Either way my friend is doing it for free, and the trem is f****d anyway, so even if it doesn't work out, I'll have learned something--which I'll be sure to pass along to you all in a new thread ('cause this one will be cold and stiff by the time I get the trem back). That way the next noobie with a rusty wanger will know exactly what to do with it.

To give you an idea of what I think the chances are that I will have a usable trem at the end of the day, I renewed my offer to the uncommunicative eBay seller who is still not responding to my offer to pay the buy-it-now price if he'll accept an overseas purchase.

Thanks all for your help. I guess this is where the waiting game begins,
