I remember watching a video in which BP mentions that they'd spent a ton of money doing a resonance study, only to find that wood was the best material.

I wonder, however, if they studied resonance among the different types of tonewoods commonly used for guitars (e.g. alder, basswood, mahogany) and if there was a substantial difference among these woods.

Yes we did...but with wood and our selections the best resonance test is the ears....especially when dealing with the artists.

Cheers for that BP.

Here's an interesting thought that I hope is relevant to your post?

Last Thursday I was in my mates guitar workshop.

He had recently made an acoustic guitar from scratch.

I'd watched him form the guitar using a stock of timber he had kept for years.
On the Thursday he took delivery of the tuners and bone string pins. As he strung it up for the first time
there were no creaks or groans and we each played it so we had a perspective of the sound from a players and listeners point of view.
To be honest it didn't sound anything special.
He took it home and has played it a lot over the last 48 hours.
I went to the workshop today and I swear that I thought it was another guitar!! No set up tweeks, no change of strings but man it sounded so much better.

Anyways I thought I'd post it to this thread to share the experience with you guys.

Can't wait to hear it next week end !!!
