Question Restring a guitar with a JP bridge

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been covered more times then most people want to think about . But I'm a newbie here and want to ask it.

How is restringing a JP bridge?
I have one floyd rose guitar I'm selling off because I can't stand restringing it ( I pour a glass of whiskey when I'm done just to relax haha). Because at times I like to treat the fretboard and polish the frets all that good stuff. And to really do that right you have to take all the strings off. DISASTROUS! So I'm curious about the JP bridge. Now I did have two come through my shop (never restrung them) and I am getting a JPX next week. SO I will have time to test out the do and don't of the guitar.

I string mine one at at time, stretch, tune and move onto the next string. The JPX has the same locking tuners as your AL and Luke. If I need to clean the fretboard, I just loosen the strings a bit.

I've never liked the one string at a time approach for exactly that reason- it's a good chance to inspect the guitar, clean it, etc.

To keep the bridge in place, try using a small wedge between the bottom of the trem plate and the body. Or, the outside of the trem block and the trem cavity wall. You'll still have to tune iteratively, but you'll be close to the mark.

Well put, beej! That is the curse of the floating trem. But the blessings... Especially on the JP, because once set, it stays.


Good point about inspection and cleaning, too.

I take all my strings off too for a bit of routine maintenance

I fold up a paper towel, do a dive bomb and jam the paper towel under the back edge of the bridge, relax the trem and then take off all of the strings. The paper towel when folded up right keeps the trem at just about the same level as when strung to pitch.

I'm with Beej, I like to inspect and clean everything when I change the strings.

+1...I do the same thing, but with a wadded up polishing cloth under the bridge.

i block it with a stradler eraser he he

its definitely much easier than a floyd rose mate.. i have to say the bridges on musicman guitars are the best i ever played on,
