Well, I have now had about a week with my new (Used, less than 1 yr. old) Reflex.
First off: No pic's at this time, I know, I know.
So, where to start¿ Fret board? finished neck feel? Pick up's? Series, parallel switch, weight, balance, finish, construction...
Let me start with the finish:
The Black Sugar finish is just fabulous. Impossible to photograph, well for me. Everything I had seen, photographed, made me think it was going to be kind of sparkly but, what it really does, on mine anyways is give the black finish a brown tint. It is just out of this world. Almost 3D, I mean there is depth to it.
Pick Up's:
They seem to be hotter than my ASS's pup's. But, that could be because the ASS's pup's are 10 years old. Whatever the case, they are great.
Series, Parallel switch:
The 5 way switch, together with this switch gives 10 truly great and usable tones. From Face melting to the most sparkly cleans, it covers it all. I can't say that it covers the Strat tone perfectly but, it is just awesome.
Tone: I play thru a Boogie MKIV. So, I have tonal options galore.
Because of the afore mentioned Pup and switching options you might think that that was enough, but NO
. Because of the hollow body and mahogany tone block, there are like four different guitars in there. I dont know how else to describe it, other than it sounds like "wood". I don't know if that makes any sense, it's just the only way I know how to describe it.
The Neck:
Ebony Fret Board: It has taken a little getting used to. Because it is so smooth and I have alway's played a rosewood fretboard, which is more porous, it grabs your finger tips more I suppose, so, the ebony is silky smooth and FAST! Tone wise, I have no idea how it affects the sound.
Width: The neck is wider than the ASS's, fit's my big hands a lot better.
Roasted:
Beautiful! Mine is not as natty, bird's eyed, flamed as other's I have seen but, no complaints here.
Finished Neck: If you will allow me to sum it up in a word... Silk.
Weight: It is lighter than my ASS but not a lot, or so it seem's to me.
Construction:
It's an EBMM, this is why I didn't purchase a Les Paul, which had been my life long dream guitar.
Size:
I would like to say something about this. I am a pretty big guy, 6'2 240 or so. So, my ASS looked pretty small on me, not that I cared, oh the tone
. But the Reflex is bigger in size and it fit's me a whole lot better. It is taking me a bit to get used to it.
So, to sum it all up... I am a happy camper. Thanks BP and all the folk at EBMM.
