Yea man, i'm sure it sounds great....its just that i'm gonna be playing in formal school ensembles...and its all gonna be very classic jazz oriented.....i don't think i'll be as respected and fit in very well with an axis super sport...plus for jazz...that semi- acoustic tone mixed in sounds great....and is fundamental as far as straight ahead classic jazz goes..grant green..wes montgomery..

again I concede to the Westcoast Jon. hahaha. ;)

AxisDude...that sounds cool. Where do you go to school?

My thing with the jazz ensembles I played in (my phrasing and such has completely gone out the window....) is that I never fit in which made it so cool....Ibeenhad with sharkteeth...lol. That's the furtherest (yes thats what I said) thing from traditional, and I still got props at festivals for my playing. I think fitting in is more about what you play, than what you play. ;)

Cool.

I played a few years back towards the end of high school in a few festivals, we had a pretty cool jazz band back then. sometimes they'd let me cop like 32 bars and let's go because there weren't too many improvisationalists. I kept a lot of the ideals I'd learned there and applied them with some guys frm hofstra that i jammed with for awhile, then I went the way of the rock singer andplayed rhythm and sang, now Im trying to get my playing back in shape.

Wow, never know what you're going to miss when you don't check in for a day or so. :)

I've got a rare Epiphone Les Paul ES I can trade. :D

an epiphone for an ernie ball...have a little respect around here, huh!:p

Well, it's a really good sounding guitar for jazz.

This one sold for about the same as many used Super Sports do:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33037&item=3721259720&rd=1

And mine's got a HSC.

I've relaced the pickups in mine with DiMarzio PAF classics, replaced the tuners with Grovers, and replaced the switch with a Gibson switch.

I'm not looking to sell my Epiphone (as it's a great complement to my Super Sport), but with all the talk about "rare" and jazz, I thought I would mention it. :D

woah, missed this thred... Guitars are guitars... TheEBMM will do anystyle you want it to. I'd personally take the EBMM of the epiphone anyday. Doesn't look bad for jazz either IMO.

I learned very quickly in college and in doing work in a studio that it does not matter what type of guitar you play for what type of music.

There are many great jazz players out there who play solid body instruments. If you can play, you can play... Thats the bottom line.... In my opinion.

Funny you should bring up the Epiphone, Bing...I was just wondering and browsing about last nite for that model. Not the rarest of birds, but unusual and one of the coolest models they've made.

I actually saw Noel Gallagher play a real Gibson custom shop version of that one at a Tibetan Freedom concert here in NYC many moons ago...someone I knew in the biz had just gotten the axe from delivery and handed it to him just before the show.

BTW, if you like that kinda hollowbody jazz/rockabilly thing, you should check out their Wildkat, Alleykat, or Flamekat (each has different PUs, I prefer the Wild due to my well known penchant for P90s). They fall right between a Les Paul and a Gretsch, and are rather nifty for the $$. I pulled nearly dead-on Johnny A. tone out of a Wildkat and a Line 6 Flextone III while demo-ing last week.

Johnny A is a great player. Underated too. More peopleneed to jump on that dude's band wagon. I think it's great that Vai has an instrumental label, but I don't see many of those cats getting press.

I was going to get an Alleykat, before I found the Les Paul ES on Ebay. They still had some NOS available in Canada, at the time I bought mine.
