Does an Axis neck ever have to be "rewaxed"? Do you guys oil your necks, like on a rosewood fretboard? I orange oiled my fretboard today and cleaned the neck with it as well, now the flame totally pops!

You should lemon oil your neck probably 6 or so times a year depending on climate, dirt, use, etc. As far as waxing, I'm not convinced you need to apply new gunstock wax more than every few years as long as your lemon oiling it regularly.

I'd just be afraid that it would build up over time if you apply it a couple times a year.

well, you shouldn't lemon oil your maple neck! :D

anyway, I have the birchwood-casey wax and I like the briwax a LOT better. it's $15 for a can of it, but it'll last forever and works way better imo. you can get it at antique furniture or furniture in the raw type places.

I don't go by time, I do it by feel and look. if it feels like it needs it, I do it...hasn't failed me yet. averages 4-5 times a year for me, but I play alot. for the fretboard, I clean it with true lemon or orange oil a good 2-4 times a month. just make sure you get the real stuff, not the scented mineral oil. good luck!

The neck was a bit dirty. The orange oil cleaned it right up, gave it a good luster. I will probably wax it in few days after the oil works its way in. I just didn't want to wax it if it was dirty. By the looks of the cloth, it was.
