Ric has sold, out on the hunt for an SR5!

Sold my Ric today! Gonna rejoin the clan soon I hope. Looking for a good used SR5in the 8-900 price range. I don't care if it has a little mojo as long as its not too crazy. White PU/pickup and Rosewood fretboard prefered but not demanded. Only thing Im not interested in is black or sunburst. Im in no super hurry as I want to make sure the Ric makes it too its new home safely but thought Id go ahead and throw this out here. Hit me with what you got!!

John, you'll never hear me say too bad things about RICs, just because they were the very first basses I had dreamed of. I remember, when I was a teen, I had bleeded ten times my whole blood to afford one (a 4001 jetglo, in 1977). I really thought that was my lifetime bass.

Though, three years later, I traded it in a shop and went out with a black Stingray w/maple board (1980, thus pre-EB). That was funny : it could replace the RIC (not the same tone, but something that would fit quite OK, especially when played with a pick), but it was also able to give that dark growl you usually get out Fender P's. Versitility was the word, but I guess I should add : power, growl, tone, tone, tone.

I guess I'd give two arms, two legs, seven kidneys and a dozen lungs to still have it, but the good thing is that they're even better now that they're EB-made.

I have no regrets about owning a Ric its a great bass, it just completed my list of every bass Ive ever wanted to own at least one of. I knew in the back of my head that Id come home to a MM bass. There durable super easy to setup, and sound fantastic. My major qualm with the ric has nothing to do with the sound, but the fact that its not the most user friendly of instruments, and some of the setup for it is a little more complicated than I care for, I of course like the MM sound better and I don't get the same vibe of CS that I do with MM products. I know with an MM if I needed a re fret I could send it to the factory and it would return and be beyond my expectations. (I know as Ive sent one to the factory for a re fret). Again I can't say that Ric wouldn't do the same thing, I just don't get a vibe that they would from reading there forums, they don't seem to care as much about there instruments once they leave the factory as EB/MM does. That and the one I had the finish blistered near the bridge the second week I had it, and it was explained to me that it was because the bridge was installed to tightly. Anyway I don't want this to turn into a brand bashing thread, especially since I don't want the thread to be closed, (I gotta find an SR5!!) I still like Ric's and if I was somewhat more financially stable Id have kept it and bought an EB too, but I'm not and sacrifices that are definitely worth it too me have been made to come back home to an SR5.

You're absolutely right about customer care and setup made easy. But let's say it : RICs are great basses, and I won't bash them either.

Now here's an inventory of what you'll get as soon as your SR5 is in your hands :

- Consistancy in quality and finish.
- Stable neck.
- Many tone capabilities, due to the 3-band EQ and the 3-way switch.
- Friendship from soundmen : straight from direct signal, you'll bring them anything they'll need : depth from the lows, growl from the mids, attack from the highs. With authority.
- Increased friendship from EBMM forumites

I have bought a few Rics over the years, and they were good basses, but they just felt kind of alien to me after years of playing Fenders. The MusicMan was alot easier for me to transition into.

Never mind I got the PM Rex, out of curiosity is that price shipped or price plus shipping? Keep em coming boys show me what ya got, I got a couple of days to wait on the Ric to arrive at its new home (man I hope it gets there safe, I hate worrying that something I sold someone will make to them in one piece), anyway it gives me plenty of time to explore options.
