Hartke User Here!

It works for me...

I have an HA5500 racked, sitting atop two 410XLS cabs. Running it at 4 ohms through the dual cabs really opens it up nicely and I love the SS/tube blend via the dual pre-amp.

I know some folks find them harsh - flat-wound strings put this rig in the zone for me and I absolutely love the punch I get from it. I dig articulate bass, not the sub-harmonic stuff, and this will punch a hole right through you.

On the down-side, the head can be a bit noisey at times (?) and the cabs weigh a ton. I've been thinking about a neo-based set-up for a while but haven't made a serious move yet because I so like my tone.

Hartke rigs
are there major problems or issues with them?

Other than the fact that the speakers sound like alley cats knocking over trash cans, they're fine.

My rigs are -

BIG - Demeter preamp, Yamaha P4500 power amp, SWR Henry 8x8
NOT AS BIG - Markbass Little Mark II, SWR Goliath Junior 2x10

I have an Ampeg SVT III + Hartke 410XL, an Avalon U5 + poweramp + EBMM HD-410, and I use GK 800RB + Hartke 410XL + Hartke 115XL on the rehearsals.

If I have to choose: U5 + HD-410.

Amazing tone from position 2 on my HS SR5! :D

Walter Woods: My Ultra (1200 watts) coupled with either a pair of EA VL 110s or a Bergantino HT 322 covers EVERYTHING from jazz, funk, and rock to country. Nice carrying a 7 lb amp too!

I've found that different amps work with different MM's-with single H 'Rays, I prefer Trace Elliots with the SMX pre-amp (Tube/ S.S.)into Eden 410T's. My 5's worked great with an SWR Bass 750 (non X)into an Eden 410XLT, and GK 1001RBII into GK 410RBH. The SR 4 HH sounded pretty good thru the GK, but absolutely rips a$$ with an Eden traveller 550 into a GK 410RBH.
I got on the Hartke bandwagon when they first came out, being distributed by Guild in the mid '80's. They may not sound that great to some of you these days, but when they first appeared, it was like a godsend...A Hamer Cruisebass and a Guild Pilot thru an A.M.P. 420 into a couple of Hartke 410's- it just didn't get any better. Dude, where's my teasing comb??........

I use a Mesa Boogie M2000 into a Mesa Boogie 6x10 with the EV speakers in it. it's the old school boogie cab.

It's racked up with a tuner and that's it.

No effects right now, although i do use some in the studio and will probably throw a chorus into the mix soon.

I'll see how this rig sounds with my new musicman, I've got it dialed perfect with the Wal...

Have you guys ever looked down off stage and noticed a few women giggling by the subs? I over the years have caught a few trying to test out the low frequency rumor, kind of like riding a Harley. That is when I drop to the low B for every note I can hit there and really dig in. The rest of the guys in the band have come to realize what I am doing when they hear the low octaves and they get a laugh too. :D

;) M-pulse venture 600w 2x10 with a 15" Mesa extension cab. Great for Live and really great in studio.

I've tried peavey, ampeg, GK, SWR, and finally fell in love with Mesa-Boogie. The other amps had good things about them but Mesa-Boogie has everything.

The M-pulse venture has absolutely the tightest bass tone of any rig I have ever had. Complete full range, tube tone (but clear and bright), bult in compression (doesn't color tone when used properly), 5 band parametric eq(versatility of genres), effects loop, DI with gain(great for studio), tuner out, aux signal out with gain, solo feature, all switchable with a foot pedal and the head is transportable seperate from the cab. I can get any tone I want from this one amp for any genre, it fits in my car, and oh yeah------- cab is on wheels.

The Peavey was very clean but too "electric" sounding(solid state) no matter what the setting, ampeg was too muddy (tube), GK tone was clean and GREAT but a little hissy/noisy and really only had that "one good tone"(solid state), SWR tone was warm and SOLID but not versatile enough for me and the cab was very heavy(tube).

I rank them IMHO:

Mesa-Boogie 9.999-10
SWR 8-10
GK 8-10
AMPEG 6-10
Peavey 5-10

Oh, and a Peterson strobe tuner. Never have to pay to strobe my guitars again. Most accurate pedal tuner on the planet.

Gallien-Krueger with Hartke 4.5 XL, and 210 XL for smaller places.
Never had a single problem with them, but since they are a little old i'm thinking about replacing the Hartkes with Avatar cabs.

I played my 1001RB-II through an old Hartke 410XL cab for several months last year. It was a good-sounding cab, but one of the speakers started to buzz a bit. Plus, that thing was HEAVY. I now use a GK Neo 212 & I'm diggin' it a lot.

Currently using an Ashdown head with GK cabs but all that will be scrapped for Markbass. The local GC has a great bass room full of Markbass and EBMM gear ...... the sound is unreal.

So, I am weighing out an Ampeg B2RE and a Genz benz Neo Pak 3.5.
Now the Ampeg is Mosfet with no tube support, while the Genz Benz does have Tube support. But the Ampeg is 450w while the GB is 350w.

Any POV on these?

SWR 750X (pre Fender) + Goliath III 4x10 + Son of Berth 1x15 - when I need power
GK 400RB and Goliath III for small venue.
Ampeg 2x15 gets thrown in when I feel like hefting the monster.

Haven't seen much EBS in here:) But then again, they' re built in sweden, and in europe they're expensive, I can imagine they are VERY pricey in the US. Great setup though, extremely versatile. I only want to add another cab.

i love my Agullar GS410 cab. i ran it with w/ a GK 1001rb and it was pretty sweet till the GK caught fire. so then i paired it w/ a little mark II and i was floored.

so this is my new rig :)

ive had an svt classic and didnt like it much. IMO theyre rad w/ the 8x10 but not as rad with another cab. thats just me tho.

recently i played an swr henry the 8x8 and loved it. i woulda bought it but my buddy beat me to it.
