first thing it'll want is a white ice p/guard.

Good luck finding one. Like the color Lava Pearl, White Ice pickguards have been discontinued. They might still have some material, but I would certainly prepare for picking an alternative.

My first Bongo was an HHp 5. It's still my main go to bass for many reasons. Enjoy it.

Very nice, congrats. When do you expect to have it in hand?

tomorrow or Wed at the latest. It's only going from Shoreham on Sea (near Brighton) to Chandler guitar in Richmond Surrey its about 75 miles
from: 4-6 East St, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5ZE (Shoreham-By-Sea) to: Kew Gardens Railway Station, Station Approach, Richmond, Greater, London, TW9 3BZ (Kew Gardens Railway Station) - Google Maps

I could do that in less than an hour on on my bike. (sorry officer, I wasn't speeding honest!)

Beth we have a name in London for people like Pete, and that is "diamond geezer" which is the highest rank or respect you can call a bloke round 'ere and he deserves it fully.

Although I must admit I was having cold sweath when I was negotiating options with him on the phone, I was split between the Lava Pearl which I went for in the end and an L.E. 2007 Blue Dawn which is the only other Bongo 5HH he had in stock. Infact that '07 Ltd Ed is a steal of a deal so if anyone is interested get in there quick. Unfortunately for me the LE was a bit dearer than the ceiling me and my gf had agreed upon, and I couldn't push my luck with it.

Damn you captain. You've been here for what...a lot less time than myself, and you're already a bongoloid.

The guy I am getting mine from has not emailed me back in about a 10 days and I'm getting very annoyed. I am beginning to think he doesn't want to sell. And then you go and just buy one like that.

If you're still up for driving me up to lincoln...

Okay, guys, the wagering pool is now open for how long it'll take CaptMoto to realize that his other basses are simply getting left in the closet, unplayed.

Capt, I know that your immediate response is "no, no, I'll play all of them...."

Every Bongoloid says that at first.

You should know that I am always up for a bit of "convincing bashing of the first kind" me! This coming Saturday I am not working and my son is out with his bird, so yeah provided you pay my diesel there and back I'll drive you there and am also willing to bring a few tools ;)

Well never say never, first I will need to see how well the Bongo works with my own amps, bear in mind I don't use any effect except for a dual compressor.

I know that the Ray will never leave my sight and will come out with me first at every gig whereas I will initally treat the Bongo as the element of surprise, and I doubt if this will shadow the other 2 basses I can't mention. You know what they say about first love...

Well this fairy tale ended pretty early :(

I guess for me it just wasn't to be, unfortunately the bass I've bought and paid for yesterday was already sold, no one was to know this as the computers showed it as avaialble and it was no one's fault except computers not timing events correctly due to the fact that its impossible for this to occurr in such a time, when another retailer had previously processed an order 30 minutes before me. I didn't know, S&T didn't know and Chandler also didn't know.

So with this I totally declare that it's not Strings & Things nor Chandler Guitars fault just Fran's luck at play here.

Sadly the situation is that the the Lava pearl was already sold and while Pete from S&T went out of his way to negotiate a compromise with the Blue Dawn Limited Ed. 1) I couldn't afford the difference 2) I am not really keen on blue colour instruments. So I opted for a refund and to forget the whole deal.

So there you have it. It's just going to be me and my StingRay 5 for the forseable future.

You think I am angry about this? Well I am not over the moon but I appreciate life's adversities sometimes play a big part in one's destiny.

I bear no grudges at all with the great friends from Strings & Things and Chandler Guitars. Life goes on.

Just because your local online dealer doesn't have a new Bongo in stock doesn't mean you can't own a Bongo. Checking the For Sale thread here and buying used is a great option, even with shipping and taxes factored in.

Thanks Aussie Mark, that would be a good tip if I was a local... but I live in London UK and 99.999999% of the basses for sale there are in the USA, not one of them here in the big smoke.

I guess I am just jinxed, I have had a very bad day today, from the moment this happened I've found it very hard to understand in my head that the bass I thought I had bought and paid over the phone by c/card was infact already sold to someone else. You try and make that concept work in your head for one minute.

So I'd rather give up on the idea of owning a bass that the Gods don't want me to own, instead of torturing my psyche with that very incomprehensible thought.

Hell owning a Bongo is not going to change my life, bring my dad back to life so I can say one last goodbye to him, or even make my son totally cured of Cerebral Palsy so he can get off his wheelchair, stand up and go play football with his mates.

I thought once I pay money to buy something, that something immediately becomes mine, right? Wrong. You get it? I don't. Anyone gets it or is it just me?

I think Mark knows you're in the UK, and his point is that you can buy a used bass from a seller in the US. Take my lovely as-new Stealth Bongo 4HH that's in the 4sale thread, for example. Could't resist, but joking aside, as Mark was saying, even with shipping charges (approx. $125 US via US Postal Service to the UK) and customs fees/import taxes, you could do well, price-wise.

Like you said, it wouldn't be the end of the world if you didn't, but it sounds as though you recently found out first-hand that there are *some* things your SR5 won't do. ;)

Bongo Power!

You were willing to buy a new Bongo from your local dealer without seeing it in the flesh or playing it, so I can't see the difference with buying used online from a fellow forum member. As I said, even with shipping and taxes you'll probably pay a lot less than the new ones you were looking at. Bongos often sell for US$850-950 in this forum and places like Talk Bass (there's one for sale at TB now for $850, and "gearhunter" has several very nice LE Bongos for sale there as well at killer prices). Sorry for trying to offer a pragmatic and constructive solution.

Don't get me wrong mate, I am appreciating your helpful suggestion, but I am just not confident in buying from abroad because a) I won't be covered by a warranty and b) if anythings goes wrong I can't exactly get on a plane to go and sort it out.

At least if a UK person sells me a "moody" bass I can go round his place and feed it to him.

I repeat THANKS for your help but it's not practical for me.

I have a couple of questions, if anyone is able to help I would appreciate it.

Following yesterday's fiasco with my non purchase, I have been offered a lifeline from that nice Pete at Strings & Things, in the way of a Bongo 5 HH with a piezo at an interesting £££ deal. But I would like some advices.

First question: I know a few of you here have more than one bongo, if you have both can you tell what is the difference between a 5HH and a 5HHp what exactly does the piezo offer in addition to a 5HH, how do you use it, do you need to plug another jack in the bass? or can you blend it into your normal HH configuration or is it something you have to play separately from your normal pickups? Does the eq works when u use the piezo?

Second question the colour is going to be Saphhire Black, has anyone got a good pic of a Sphre Black Bongo to give me an idea?

However part of the special £££ deal is the fact that there is a small mark on the bass headstock, where a little bit of paint is scratched. I believe I can find a close enough satin varnish that will allow me to touch up the mark so it doesn't look too out of place. Best I ask Customer Service about that...

Thanks.

I am having it sent to me tomorrow to test it before I buy so this is not a definite purchase, that way I won't get my hopes up end end up feeling as gutted as I felt yesterday and actually no less today
