Okay, so assume for a moment (just a moment) that one of the goodies coming up in 2k7 is an all-rosewood-necked bass.

What implications would that have for fretlesses, given that EBMM uses pau ferro for its fretless fingerboards?

Do you think they'd put a pau ferro board on the rosewood neck? That seems rather silly to me...why put a hugely expensive rosewood neck on a bass if you're just going to cover it up?

Or do you think they'd leave it with a rosewood plank? (Faster wear with rounds, right?)

The floor is open.

Gee, what could that mean. Wait!
I think it's a hint that the neck will be solid pau ferro. Or that you should only use flats. I have to go puzzle this one over for a few months.

Or that there will be a solid rosewood neck but only for fretted basses.

BP is a MASTER of obfuscation. Don't get into a guessing game with him...he'll bury you every time.

I'd be willing to bet, though, that it means no solid rosewood necks for us mere mortals.

Time will tell, but meanwhile guessing is fun.

ThwaP ... have a good spit, and the wind comes along and blows it right back in your face

I sorta liked your game, if only for a moment
and I'll put a nickel on the ebony board

Now go have a beer and forget the hole thang ;)

I know I should probably just be using the search fuction for this, but I'll just ask 'cause I'm a Noob who refuses to abide by the guidelines posted by moderators with kewl green bongos.
Ok, so where on the forums did BP imply that rosewood necks might be a thing of the future? I know what EBMM making 6's is really revolutionary and all, but I think a fully rosewood neck would change the tone of a bass so much that it might not even <GASPS> sound like a musicman anymore!

I would cry if my next 2007 ray had a neck that looked and felt like some Thumb bolt-on.

I think it would be cool to do the bongo with a rosewood neck and a maple fret board.

rosewood necks have been talked about here n there. there's been a few prototypes with rosewood necks and the rosewood axis exists and is available. so ya, its been talked about a bit and in a few situations (like the ones i mentioned) it is a reality.

i beleive sterling said at open house that reliably getting large enough peices of rosewood to make a lot of bass is not easy and/or expensive (i dunno the details). but anyways... a lot of people like rosewood necks b/c of the feel and their sound.

now if 2007 brings us rosewood necks it will probably be in a limited edition bass or possibly an upgrade... BUT i its not like maple necks are gonna go away. MAYBE we will be lucky enough to have more choices. choices being the key word

again, im just listing possibilities. in due time we'll see what 07 has in store for us. but dont forget... choices are a good thing!

I think it would sound like a Musicman. And it wouldn't look and feel like a Thumb bolt-on. It would look and feel like a Musicman with an all rosewood neck, which I imagine must be faaaaantastic!!!

The 30th Anniversary SR4 has a birdseye maple neck w/rosewood board. The only pics of all rosewood necks on EB basses I've seen are the CLB Bongo and the buttercream Bongo w/rosewood neck at the Open House. That buttercream Bongo still haunts me.
