I am considering to get myself a rosewood neck Ball, great playing neck!

However, I am a bit shy to take the plunge. I have no experience with this neck material, only as a fretboard. Is Rosewood a sturdy wood for a neck, or is it more sensitive to humidity and temperature than maple? Also, how durable is the finish, can it be kept in shape with a yearly fine rub with bore oil, or does it require more maintenance? Any input from regular and especially longterm rosewood neck users greatly appreciated!

Rosewood is a harder / denser wood than maple - I think - and should do well with less attention than an unfinished maple. I've owned several rosewood necked PRS guitars and they were incredibly stable.

the only thing I have done to the HH AL is wipe it down with an EB Wonder Wipe every few weeks, but I do that with all my guitars now. Keeps the necks clean and feeling like new.

Most of my necks are rosewood and it is a much easier neck to maintain than a Maple one. Just give it a good wipe down every now and then and two or three times a year give it a cleaning with lemon oil or Fret Doctor which is what I use. Unlike maple you do not have to worry about it getting a dirt build up and getting discolored, it also has a warmer tone than maple, by that I mean slightly.

Wonder Wipes are the way to go for the all-rosewood necks...maintenance is a breeze! Playability is (of course!) excellent and -as with everything EBMM- I wouldn't worry about stability.

Thanks guys, that's what I hoped.

I am dreading guitars that have to be setup from scratch every time they leave the case. I use Fret Doctor for all my rosewood fretboards anyway - others recommend lineseed oil (not the boiled kind), but Wonderwipes are of course the simplest. As long as I don't have to use oil or Wonderwipes every single time after I just picked up the guitar for a quick fumble ;).

I have the "choice" (also known as pain) between a BFR Axis SS and a PRS Custom 24 special run, both with rosewood necks. Funnily, I always said I'd consider a PRS once they get rid of their clear-coat neck finish...touchee. Tough call, especially since I already have an Axis and like some variety...stay tuned.

I use Fret Doctor too, amazing stuff for porous fingerboards. Not for the back of the neck though. EBMM have an oil and wax finish there that can be reapplied as necessary. Depending on how much you play, probably not more than once or twice a year.
