Rosewood Ugly?

I've had mine for about a week now.... I love the rosewood top and the neck SMOKES!!!!

As for the 70's wood panel look... that's cool. Maybe I'll just have to dig up my old bell bottoms, GAS shoes and leatherette vest and proceed to Kick out Some JAMS!!!!

Would be nice if the rosewood neck was offered on the whole of the Axis line, without the Rosewood top.

I am sure there is a good reason for this though!

I thought all the guitars and basses EB produces are either 2 or sometimes 3 pieces of wood from what I remember of dudley's factory tour. They just fit together extremely well.

Could be wrong.

As I recall from the tour, the majority of the bodies are 2 or 3 piece, but they do make the occasional 1-piece. It just depends on the wood supply. If they get a board that's nice enough (and wide enough) they'll make a 1-piece.

The joint used to join the 2 and 3-piece bodies is very neat.. almost a dovetailed tongue-and-groove interlock. But then, cool little details are abundant in MM instruments.

Love the Rosewood Axis. It looks a little like my Martin Acoustic (I have the model thats all dark mahogany - neck, top, back, sides, etc.) I like the one type of wood look. I'm sure the rosewood sounds great too.

I've only played one Axis, but the body was a solid piece of wood top to bottom, which I think is an Axis Sport, right?

Okay guys, I'll probably catch alot of crap for this, but I have to say it.

I'm sure the marriage of the Rosewood top and neck is a great tone combination, but I just think the guitar is plain ugly. When I look at it, it reminds me of the paneling in my Mom and Dad's basement bar back in the '70s. It's not so much the neck as the top. It would be cool to have a solid rosewood neck on a regular Axis body, but the rosewood top is just, well, horrifying.

Now, I realize I'm going to take some arrows for this, but there surely has to be someone else out there that agrees with me.

I played my Axis at a gig on friday for the first time. I must add the following:

Regardless of its funky looks, that thing rocked big time! It felt awesome, and I was really impressed with the tone. It was perfect! I had three guitars on stage, and the Axis was more or less the "backup", but I ended up playing it on more songs than I had planned!

Now, if it had a piezo, it would get played even more

Yeah, for sure, that's a good problem to have.
I didn't have great expectations for the Axis, necessarily. I really just wanted a nice, quality rosewood necked guitar, and at those prices, the Axis was impossible to pass up (especially after the reviews you posted all over the place ).
So the pressure was off so to speak.

But the damned thing stepped right in and blew me away!

I am really a maple fretboard fan so the total rosewood neck is just well... different. I am a fan of good wood (she is too) so I like the little finish required. BP said the anniv. silo might be total rosewood. If that's the case then I better start loving it. While I think they do look like paneling I also think they are beautiful from a wood point of view. I am so glad I have other choices.

With all the rose wood axes going out the door I think a rosewood silo would just be lost in the mix.

I used to think the Axises themselves were kinda ugly. Then I tried one and promptly fell in love with the tone and the feel and then the look kinda grew on me.

I like the all-rosewood look.
