This is my second post I believe and my first thread. I've been reading threads on here for ages but never felt the need to post until today.

I'm about to buy my second JP6, I had one earlier this year but it was a standard model. As great as it was, I decided to sell up, wait it out and get something a little more special.

The time has come!

I'm trying to decide between a Roasted Maple BFR (standard body shape, basswood body, piezo, black sugar), Rosewood neck BFR (standard body shape, alder w/mahogany, solid black finish, no piezo), or a JPX.

I don't know much about the JPX, have never played one, and won't be able to until I've paid for it and it arrives... I'm just looking for a bit of comparison in the form of these questions:

What is the difference in feel between the 4 JP Necks, i.e. Roasted, Rosewood, standard and JPX?

What would having no Piezo do to release of the Rosewood neck BFR? It's used and I believe a custom built model for an endorsee, it's not an endorsee that I'm buying from.

Aside from the Aesthetic and the pickup selector, how does the JPX differ from the other JP's?

Any answers here would be amazing, thanks!

The JPX is chambered and has the biggest frets! They are ALL quite different from each other. If I were you I would go for a JPX...looks cool and just has some special options that are a result of innovations over the years by EBMM on other models including the 20th Silhouette, 25th Anniversary and JPs never ending quest for perfection.

Check this out if you havent seen it yet in JPs own words :D.

It really depends on what you are looking for. The JPX will be around for a while so there is always time to get one later on.

BFR Rosewood Neck- These are going to be hardest to find as they were part of a 1 month long order window in Dec 2008. There are still some new ones out there, but you may have to go used to find the one you want. Rosewood is a great feeling neck, its unfinished like the standard JP's. It darkens the tone a little bit but its a sweet sound.

BFR Roasted Neck These are just coming in and should be available at many retailers. Guitar Center has some killer exclusive colors! The neck will be finished and should play like the other BFR guitars (except the rosewood BFR) I have no idea what it is going to do to the tone as I haven't played one yet.

JPX- Standard BFR neck with taller frets.

If it were me, I would jump on an All Rosewood neck first, the Roasted 2nd and the JPX last as it will be available the longest.

Well I've got a seller now for the Rosewood neck, $2k.

It looks pretty mint. The only reason I haven't jumped is the lack of Piezo. I'd feel daft spending all this money and missing out of something so readily available on other models.

How does the BFR neck differ to the standard? Is it more like a Morse (please say yes, my life will be complete!)

I'm hoping not to buy another guitar like this again after this, so it's less a case of priorities and more a case off which is closest to what I want - which I appreciate you guys can't tell me! After this I'll be looking for a Strat lol.

Maybe in a year or two I'll be looking into other JP's. The problem after buying this guitar is I'd have to sell a guitar I have to buy another, whereas buying one now I can keep all of mine lol.

Taller frets appeal to me somewhat.

Thanks guys great responses.

is the Rosewood neck JP new? if not I think you can do better then $2K and get a piezo... you may have to wait a bit, but I am sure someone here will be selling one soon or one will pop up on ebay. You can also check Guitar Center as they had a bunch even as recently as July.

I'm in the UK, so unfortunately New EBMM's from the USA don't seem to be an option, and buying here I don't have much choice. I can get them direct from MusicMan UK at trade because I work in a shop but even then I can only get what they have.

It's not new, the certificate shows it as an early 2009. It was custom mode for an endorsee as I say, hence the standard body shape.

And I like the Morse and JP necks equally, the Morse just seems a little more comfy for longer playing times.

Maybe it was just that day, haha. I certainly seem to lean towards the JP's much more as players.

the BFR neck is the same size as the regular JP neck, but it is finished.
to me EBMM-guitars were the best guitars in the world due to their unfinished necks and the feel you get while you are playing these guitars.
it took a long time until i pulled the trigger on a BFR (i had worries about the finished neck) but now i really love the BFR and the finish is great, it´s not sticky like on many other guitars out there, and to me the neck feels a bit more rounded as on the regular JPs. maybe this is because the lacquer goes around the back of the and the sides of the fretboard. it´s nice and i´ll go for another BFR / JPX in the future....after i bought the de-purple burst Y2D trem i´m GASing for at the moment. :)

I think I just need to see the JPX, if the finish isn't as glaring as it looks in person then I'll probably go for that.
I'm undecided about rosewood necks to be honest, I think they get a lot of favour because they cost so mcuh more, I don't really know what the advantage is.

A Roasted neck would be awesome but because I'd have to buy new and in the UK, it's just gunna cost too much. And I prefer the BFR Body.

The JPX purple sparkle is very subdued under normal lighting. Just looks like a dark purple guitar. Hit it with halogens, spots or flashes, and it does light up nicely - with overtones and sparkles of bright blue. If you plan to play under lights, it will be flashy.

So....not sure what you want - more glaring or not. There are a variety of pics that we JPX owners have taken, and if you average them together, you should have a pretty good idea of what it looks like.

I've owned the original rosewood and now ebony jpx.

the biggest difference are the frets on the JPX. necks all feel pretty similar.

They are all so fassssst, they virtually play themselves.

I like the JPX neck the best. Actually, the whole JPX the best.

I'm going for a used jpx from the USA, I mailed the two guys sellin them on here so as soon as somebody gets back to me I'll have one on order :)

I like the colour, definitely prefer to the black sugar, and if the roasted necks are gunna be around a while I'll get one some other time!

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I hope to contribute a lot to the forum :)

I'm more excited about it than I can express in text, you'd have to see my face for full effect.

I just love Music Man guitars!!!

This is my second post I believe and my first thread. I've been reading threads on here for ages but never felt the need to post until today.

I don't know much about the JPX, have never played one, and won't be able to until I've paid for it and it arrives... I'm just looking for a bit of comparison in the form of these questions:

Any answers here would be amazing, thanks!

FYI if the Rosewood neck one you're looking at has the standard body like on your JP6 then it does not have the alder body with the tone block but is actually just a JP6 with an all Rosewood neck

It's a custom order for an endorsee, I can confirm that it is a BFR and is Alder. I can give a serial number to a Mod/ EB Rep for absolute certainty though. It's not the limited run rosewood neck production model.
