Rickenbacker has been in the 12 string business since the earth cooled. It's their signature piece-their Axis.
Any demand for a 12 string EBMM would last only until the 50 or so maniacs who really wanted one got theirs-then it would be over.
Cool idea, but at the end of the day it's a losing proposition.

Just my $.02

all it would take is one "Mega-Player" to come out with a new sound and they'd be back in favor,

And, as we all know, the next "big artist" will be playing a Music Man.....and he'll have a signature model....and it COULD be a 12 string...so my dreams may continue......as stated above by the Prince of Dreams! :^>)

I like this place. Things get done in a hurry! :D

I recall a period in time when THE major builder of guitars chose not to fix the holes in the guitar that was the biggest seller going. So along came Kramer and Jackson and others.......and they did fix the holes and gave people what they wanted from that body shape/design. As I recall, they did quite well for themselves.

I'm not proposing that ANYONE is going to sell a zillion 12 strings....too many of us have been turmned off by the current problems inherant in their use....but the "innovative company " who solves problems and brings a better mouse trap to the market reaps rewards........and reward doesn't always have to be financial. :^>)

The best way to get us to make a twelve string is for one of our signature artist to request one. In over twenty years none has......

Benji -- "Hey Sterling, how about making a 12 stringer?"

BP -- "No."

I love these discussions. They quickly turn from "hey- I've got a great idea!" to "Sterling- let me tell you how to run your company!" :p

With all due respect, I'm hoping that wasn't directed in my direction as I'm not only a devoted MM dealer.......but a devoted user/player as well. As you'll see on my posts in "other" forums, Music Man is my only ray of hope in "manufactured instruments". I use that term carefully and with reverence as MM is comparable to Custom Shops for most other companies.

IMHO, Sterling, is doing a stellar job at running EB and you'll never hear a complaint from me. :^>) Again, not trying to be disagreeable here--simply inform and introduce myself. There's nothing worse than seeing someone with 8 posts appear suddenly among others with thousands.....and he's trying to reinvent the world. I've been in the MI business for a looonnngggg time and understand all of the aspects of it quite well. :) Long Live Music Man!

I was just kidding around Rich- that's tongue in cheeck.

Sterling answered your question though, and you still tried to make the point that you think there's a market for this, so that's where the comment comes from.

We're all huge fans of MM, it's all good. These guys are clearly the tops!

Thanks Beej....:^>)........I only raise points if I TRULY believe I have reason to. I get a pretty fair number of requests for 12 strings. I stock' em and I sell 'em........but I've never found one that reached the quality levels that Music Man lives up to as a constant.

It's kind of like lefties. I keep a dozen in stock at all times. I sell lots of 'em.

I, truly, didn't mean to start a heated discussion....only to drop a nut in the forest and see if anything grew. :^>)

Peace.

Rich,

I wouldn't call this a 'heated' discussion. It's all good! I for one didn't take your posts as anything other than what you called them... just tossing the idea out there. That's what we're here to do, talk about EBMM instruments, be they real or imagined. (Although imagining new EBMM guitars with sparkle finishes is generally frowned upon by management... :D)

It's a fun bunch here, and I think we are all just having some fun with this thread. Welcome aboard, it's nice to have another EBMM dealer participating in the forum.

12 strings.... Guess I have to throw in my two cents. I think 12 strings are definately a much smaller market 6 than strings. Also, I don't know a lot of players (read any) who would purchase a 12 string as their primary guitar. Given that, I don't think that there are a whole lot of players who will want to drop over a grand on a 12 string. However, if there were a really good 12 string out there for say five or six hundred I think it would do fairly well. Of course, I don't know if you can actually build a good 12 string and sell it for that. Guitar players (especially people who do cover bands like I do) are always looking to add another tool to the shed. A decent 12 string would always get pulled out for those Byrds covers etc...

I think that's probably all I get for .02... :D

I'm a sparkle freak, too! I currently have 4 balls and 3 of them sparkle.

Rich, seeing as you are practically right up the road from here, if you ever want a custom sparkle job, or if you want to join the Molten Gemstone club, lemme know :D

Pete. I don't mean to get too personal, but have you seen a Doctor for this condition?
