This may sound kind of silly, but wathing the Friends Finale last night made me think of a lot of different things. Well, actually, it started earlier this week when I was at my Grandmother's funeral. I realized that a lot of the music I really like, and the artists that really inspire me, are probably all going to quit about the same time as well. Peter Gabriel, Mark Knopfler, Steve Howe and Van Morrison are probably not going to be super active much in the future. Genesis is already done, Van Halen is giving it another try, but who knows how long that will last.
I guess for me the biggest one is Rush. They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this summer and it feels like it is going to be their last tour. If I looked online more I figure I could probably find out for sure, but I am not certain I even want to know. They have been my favorite band since I was a little kid. It was two years of listening to them before I found out the Geddy Lee was a man! I alwasy thought they had a woman singer. But hey, I was nine, so leave me alone!
Anyway, all this "Finale" hooplah going on for Friends reminded me that pretty soon I will have to say the same about my favorite band ever. I imagine most music fans have to face this sooner or later (Beattles, Elvis, The Who, Menudo, etc...) but I just wanted to throw my band in the hat. Sure, they are not going to get the same fanfare as Friends or Frazier (although they deserve it) and heck they will probably never get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (which is a travesty) but I will miss them more than any TV show when they finally do call it quits.
I am not sure why I am writing this, maybe because I am bored at work and have been listening to Hemispheres all morning. But I just needed to get this out of my system. Sorry if I bored anyone...
