Sabre Classic on it's way!

Does anyone have anymore opinions on the tone? I played one at my local GC and feel kinda the same way Freddels does. Though I find the bass overall doesn't have the power I thought it would. I played it along with a Stingray Classic and Stingray sounded a lot better. I know they are apples and oranges but of all the EBMMs I have and have played this Sabre was the weakest. An important thing about this bass, it's a scratch and dent. According to GC it's fallen off the wall a few times. I can live with dents since they are taking about $600 off the price. I'm wondering if the lack of power may have to do with the bass getting abused in the store. If I were to get it, is it worth having the pickups, pots, and wiring checked out by EBMM?
 
Man, I'e never been a fan of the natural finish, but on that it looks awesome! Maybe it's the rosewood board.
 
Andrew, how did the neck pickup sound to you compared to the bridge? The neck pickup was very quiet in the 4 and 5 switch positions.
 
Just picked up the Sabre on Saturday. Natural, flamed neck, rosewood fretboard, tortoise pickguard. Tremendous fit & finish, more versatile tones than my Stingray. Love the flamed neck! It doesn't have quite the huge bottom of the Stingray, and it isn't nearly as loud, but it's louder than my passive Fender Jazz and with more full tone. Turn the amp up!

Still a bit heavy (9.6 lb on the scale), but not as heavy as the mahogany 30th Anniversary Stingray (10.5 lbs--a beast!). The Bass Player mag review hits it right--in position 2 on the switch, more Jazz-like; on position 5, more P-like. A pretty great all-around bass. It doesn't get the clean top-end sheen of the Sadowsky, but this isn't built for that--it's not a Marcus Miller. It's also not $4500!
