Are these emg original, they look like jazzbass pickups. serial nr. C003307
I'm don't know if it will be wise to buy the bass?

The Sabre Bass was never made with Jazz Bass-type pickups.

P.S. The neck wont be original either. I don't believe the Pre-EB Sabre was offered with a lined fretless board.

There are a few funny things about that Sabre:
1) It still does look like the original neck because if the shape of the fretboard end up at the headstock, and everything about the headstock is correct. Of course there were never lined fretless back then, and to me it appears someone took a blank fretless and had the lines added.
2) No, Jazz pickups are not correct on any Sabre, and a pickgaurd was made for this mod.
3) The control plate is missing the three switches, and the plate itself looks to be made of the same plastic material as the new pickguard. So I'm betting all the original electronics are long gone.

The bass looks decent, depending on the price. But the Sabre electronics (especially the pickups) are near impossible to find.

Other than that, it's perfect!

MusicMan makes fantastic new HH Stingrays, which would be a more playable beast, for sure.

Yeah entirely wrong pickups, they used the humbucking musicman ones hence wrong pickguard too and i dunno about the controls but the plate looks to be plastic too, originally it was chrome. Also looks like someone has defretted it and filled the holes.

Apart from that though it does look to be in good condish.

+1

The neck appears to be a Pre-EB as the string retainer is on the D&G strings. I can't see a hole in the headstock which would make me think it's been removed from the A&D strings.

If you want some original sabre pickups you could bid on this and sell the body on afterwards.

Also if you really want the genuine thing here's a sabre neck on the bay too

then you'd just need the electronics.

replace the pickups

Is it possible to replace the pickups by other ones (duncan,... The stingray types)
Can you put two of them in it and make it work with the original electronics?

The humbucker pickups for the Sabre are physically smaller than the Sting Ray (although the appear the same). I've never seen aftermarket pickups for it.

You wont find an original pre-amp for a 1979. The electronics for this particular Bass went from 1978 to circa 1983.

Personally, I wouldn't even prod it with a stick.

Could i use this controle plate and fit it with the stingray pickups?[/ATTACH]

Or would it be better to let it go. I wanted to trade my fender pbas usa 95 for it.

First impression is yes (and no)...but I need to see an overhead view!

How did this pre-amp suddenly come to lite!!!?????

IMO..you're flogging a dead horse.

Hmm if you got some sabre pickups and that preamp it could work... you'd have a job wiring it though!
(just noticed it's missing a switch... hmm)

Instead of getting some seymour duncan pickups you should buy that body i linked you to earlier and then flog the body again after you've taken the pickups.

Hmmmm

That body and pickup is not that cheap. and i'm not shure that i'll be able to resell the body. Is there a big market for those bodies?

As TU has noted, it's missing a switch. The rest appears ok. I saw it today on Ebay. Wonder if the seller has any close-ups?? The BIN seemed a bit high at first but when you take into a/c the control plate, knobs, pots etc then its probably not too bad. Never seen one that complete!

Hi,

The seller would include a 3th switch, the original went bad. What's the BIN?
