i was going through the forum the other day and i came across some one selling a sabre. Now ive seen sabre guitars but never heard of the bass. When i looked at the picture of it, it had a nice vintage style to it, though looking nice and good tone are 2 different things. Do they still make sabre (i hope i spellt that right) and are they worth buying?

EB discontinued the Sabre bass soon after taking over Music Man, I'm not sure exactly when it was discontinued..'85 maybe? I don't know.

I'm sure it was discontinued because it didn't sell well for whatever reason, I've also read that the neck pickup was somewhat lacking.

If you want a dual pickup, personally I'd look into the Bongo or hold out for the dual pickup Stringray or Sterlings that are coming out.

I had a 1989 Sabre so they must have made them at least that long. Sabres are really great basses and the early ones sound a lot like a Stingray with the bridge pup only and give you more low end when you add in the neck.

They aren't super common or super rare, kinda in the middle somewhere...

I assume I'll always have my 1979 Sabre, but I'm really looking forward to checking out an HH Stingray!
