saddles screw too high !

Again a problem with my saddles...some of the screw are to high and start to make my playing really unconfortable...

I've mailed Scott @ music man international customer service, I hope he'll send me a set of small screw.... :(

Shim your neck with a little plastic piece to increase your neck angle so you can raise your saddles and the screws disapear. There you go.

the pick up can't be adjusted on the luke...so, I would loose a small but significative part of the sound...

I need new screw...that's the thing.
 
What has happened is that your bridge saddles are in the wrong position. The Saddle that is on your D string should be on your small E string. The saddle on your small E string should be on your B string. The saddle on your B string should be on your D string.

After you have done all of that, you need to adjust your bridge saddles so that there is a radius to them. In the picture, it looks like all of your saddles are the same height. You want to have the middle saddles higher, and taper down on each end. This should match the curvature of the fretboard as you go down the neck.

That is why you have different height saddle screws, so that you can adjust the correct curvature, or radius on the bridge saddles and not have a lot of screw sticking up past the saddle.
 
It pissed me off too with my silo special so I just put the graphtec vintage size saddles and now its smooth like butter and comfy to rest my palm on, maybe try that, I actually hate the vintage saddles, they kill tone as well I feel, if you call MM have them send you the axis style modern saddles - russ

I've put some graph tech saddles, I hate the sound...I just need short screw.

I'm not really sure...I've never seen this kind of screw problem on any uitar that I've owned before... :confused:

I've got the same issue on my Luke. In a previous post, Jon mentioned that he replaced the screws on Keith's Luke when it was in the shop. That's an easy fix, so it's what I plan do to- just head down to the local guitar store and purchase some screws that are 1/2 - 3/4 the height of the existing ones (shouldn't cost much).

The only downside is that you'll need to set up your bridge again once you've done this. But as nobozos pointed out, your bridge saddles are set flat and should be ajdusted to match the radius of your fretboard anyway.

of course that was my first reaction...but no store here could get the screw that I'm looing for, so they sent me to EBMM french distributor who could not do nothing for me...it seems that this kind of screw is not available in france... :eek:
 
I just reread that post. I had thought it said that "I screwed Keith on his Luke."



But honestly, they were just barely sticking out on a couple of saddles. That was a case of Jon doing more than asked because he's Jon.

My Purple Luke had it way worse. They stuck out pretty high on all the saddles and I had that taken care of locally about 6 months ago cause it was rippin up the palm. At least I think that's what was rippin up my palm. (I may as well say it as someone would have).

Wow- that's really odd. It's probably a standard screw, just not sure what kind it is.

If I were in your shoes, I'd just call EB directly and ask to buy some smaller screws - they should be able to handle this over the phone and ship them out to you.

Failing that, if they tell you what kind they are you should be able to source them somewhere else in Europe, UK, US, etc. and have em shipped to you.

Or ... as a last resort you could have them cut down to size. A good repair shop should be able to do this for you.

I've been married for 14 years, and I know what it's like when you need a screw, and you can't get one.

After getting them back in the correct order, you may still want shorter screws - but until then, at least putting them back in the proper order and correctly setting the saddle height to match the fingerboard radius would be a HUGE improvement.
