Safe to replace music man nut?

Hey folks, I have a Music man Luke LE 07 and a tech ended up filing my nut way to low. I took it to him cause i had some bad open G buzzing and slightly on the B. The truss rod and saddles are all set just right except the nut causing my open G to buzz like crazy. Just to clarify I play in CGCFAD. I'm using 54, 42, 30, 17, 13, 10 gauge strings. I could try filing the nut with some type of glue but I'm worried I might need a new nut all together

Problem is, I noticed the clear coating is on nut... I'm worried I might mess something up trying to hank the old nut out. Is there a safe way to do this?

Anyone who uses heavy strings and down tune their music man have any suggestions??

Well, I guess that's one "tech" that's not getting work again. Why anyone would file a nut to cure open strings buzzing is beyond me. Stupidity! In my opinion, your tech should pay the costs of any further repair.

Anyway, maybe I'm just being monday morning grumpy. But DO contact Music Man Customer Service and let tell them the story. They can send you a replacement nut and advise you on how to proceed. See links in my signature...

On my SUB, I play with 11-52 strings (standard tuning) and on my Morse with 10-52 strings (standard tuning also). The only thing I had to do was to increase a bit the width of the slots of the heavy strings. In order to do that, I just took an old string (for instance for the low E, a 46 string) and I filed the slot by moving the string in the slot. No need to file the depth of the slot, just the width.
I like your idea to fill the slot with some glue. You can try it (be careful : protect your neck with masking tape). If it works, that great, otherwise in every case you will have to change the nut.

Thanks everyone for the input. I might end up ordering a new nut actually. It seems the g string also has some very bad buz going on the 1st and 2nd fret as well. No matter how high the string sets after the glue that didn't seems to go away but the open buzz did. I'll try to get a hold of the tech if I can. I wish there were beter techs where I live though.. I feel like I wasted 60$ for this set up.

The neck seems pretty straight, from what I can see and the saddles are not to low. Don't really know what's causing all this.

Agreed. Personally, I would ask him for a full refund and never darken his door again. Try to get some contact details of local professional musicians and ask them who they trust with their instruments. Local music stores may help too.

The nut on my JP6 needed replaced - I purchased a blank from EBMM customer support and paid a local tech to replace it

This works great. I just had to have it done on my JP and I've had it done on a Luke as well as some other guitars long ago.
