so i went to a music shop today b/c i thought it might be to get some effects for noodling around at home ... not a live thing but just for kicks.

so anywho ... i go to the store and grab a Sterling off the wall and go mess around with some pedals for 30 minutes or so ... i didnt end up wanting any so i took the bass back to the wall to hang it up and on the way there a sales guy i had not dealt with at all that day walks up to me and says "so, you gonna buy that?". Now, im thinking "wtf! hello, to you too". he was serious too, not even trying to be funny ... he just walked up said "are u gonna buy that?" and i turned around and answered "no, i already have 4" and left the shop.

my buddy adam was with me and started just lauging at the guy. he was more or less trying to be a smartass and the look on his face was great when he got a smartass comment in return. so, im never going back there again.

some people gotta give being nice a shot some time

Jack, youre right. Act now is much more pleasing to the ear.

And Arin, I know the kind of jerks youre talking about. I was at a music store playing a Taylor, and the sales jerk walks up and say, "do you know that that Taylor is over $2,000 dollars"? My response was similar to yours. "Yup, I just got my third", I said, about a half a second before walking off.

Now let's be fair. You HAVE been buying sterlings at a record pace. Maybe he's a lurker on this forum.
:D :D :p :p ;) ;)

I guess I've been lucky. I've never(even when I was real young) got hassled by a sales person about playing an expensive piece of gear. In Saint Paul there are two places, Willies American Guitars(a lot of vintage stuff) and American Guitar Boutique(Roscoe, Warrior, EBS...etc), that are great about just letting you check out the gear in peace. We're talk'n about '64 Jazz Basses and exotic 7 string "basses" that cost up to $7,000.

Last weekend I found a used Peterson Strobostomp at an unnamed retailer. On Saturday they told me it was $125. For some reason I didn't buy it then. However I came to my senses the next day and went back for it. A different person now tells me its $145. I told them that I was in there yesterday and they said it was $125.

Now instead of them telling me something logical that it was a one day sale price, they tell me that they had two and the one yesterday was used and that this one was a 'new' open box. I then commented that thats funny, because this one also has a broken battery clip and two black marks in the exact same places as the one I used yesterday.

They still tried to tell me it was a different one. I said thats fine if you want me to believe that, but I don't really need it and as I was about to walk away, I got it for $125, which is an aw3some deal for this thing.

I had a similar experience at GC when returning a pedal. The salesman tells me "Didn't you see the sign that says no returns?" My response(now in pissed off mode) was "No, But I Saw On The Receipt Where It Says 30 Day Return." He was very nice to me after that................

Damn Phat. You just don't seem to be having a good weekend. Maybe time for some self-medication? :)

My local GC acctually has a cool group of guys working there, and some really good bass players. Well there was that one time that a sales guy showed me a used Stingray and pointed out the "piezo bridge." He felt kinda silly when I told him they were just the string mutes :p

Nothing compares to the cheap azz mofo (yet nameless) who owns a music store in Petaluma, CA that I worked for a few years back who sold new Fenders, hung them on the wall at full list price and even had the cajones to remove the case candy (truss rod wrenches etc....) and sell them at the counter for $10 a set.

walks up to me and says "so, you gonna buy that?"

"I was, but not now, at least, not at this shop and certainly not from you!"

They always seem to forget that sales isn't about selling stuff, it's about customer service. How many of us have paid a little extra for something simply because you got good service from the sales staff? I know I have done it many times before.

+1! I felt the same way in response to the GC dipsh*t that tried to "help" me with my Bongo purchase...when he wasn't d*cking around for the 30 minutes that I waited for him to check inventory.

"Can I order that for you?"...

..."No." :D

Oh yeah! I've also walked away from great deals because of arrogant or incompetent sales staff...as noted elsewhere in this thread. :D

As a reminder...

Please keep in mind that GC is Ernie Ball's biggest customer and it is not wise for bashing to take place on a company sponsored forum.
