Hey all :)
I have a question about sterling guitar finish, could you help me up?

Recently, I bought a Sterling SUB Silo 3 (black, maple neck) and a JP60 Mystic Green.

Then I also bought a couple of guitar stands, which is PT32 POCKET TITAN by Iba*ez (you know.. ;p)
However, in the box it says that this product is incompatible with "lacquer finished guitars".

Can anyone tell me what finish are both of my guitars?

And what is the cause of this incompatibility? The stand is made from some kind of rubber, and I thought it will be gentle to any guitar..

Thank you very much :)

SBMM and EBMM use poly finishes... You should be good. I've never had any issues with guitar stands with EBMM. My understanding is that the lacquer finishes are more "vintage" (50's 60's) instruments.

Nitro, laquer finishes scratch easily so its propably only for these type of finishes. Mostly found on pre-70's guitars

Nitrocellulose Lacquer also takes a VERY long time to completely cure/harden (months to years) and will interact with other substances (like some rubbers used in guitar stands) during that time - so the guitar stand people are covering their butts by reminding you of that.

As has been mentioned, not an issue with EBMM or SBMM guitars! :)

I repaint guitars and use nitrocellulose clear. The brand is extremely important as saying nitrocellulose is about as specific as saying "wood" when asked what a guitar body is made of. I have found that the minwax black can stuff drys quickly, smells nice (relatively) and does NOT react to guitar stands. Duplicolor (acrylic lacquer) smells horrible, takes forever to dry and reacts with the rubber on my stands.

Thanks Jack for your detailed explanation!

Actually, I was close to buying a vintage 2nd hand Fen**r, which might have some issues with the finish as you guys said. I'm glad I made a right decision with SBMM!

Yes, your guitars are safe as long as they are the factory stock finishes :)

WOW, Brian Martin replied to my comment!

Thanks Brian, I am very pleased with the neck feel of my SBMM JP60!

And gorgeous paint job with the MGR! That is why I was worried about the warning on the guitar stand box...

Looking forward to try the SBMM Majesty :)

Cheers,
Albert
