Update - I had an epiphany last night (they don't happen often so when they do I feel gifted
). I realized I had a pickup upgrade right under my nose. My first "real" electric guitar was a Hondo Fame Series 761 Strat copy with a Zebra stripe paint job, Kahler trem and a Dimarzio Dual Sounds HB pickup. A real 80's masterpiece
. Since I have purchased a couple of really nice guitars over the past few years (in my world anyway) the Hondo doesn't get played anymore. Anyway, I took the Dimarzio out of the Hondo and put it in the Silo 30. One word to describe the sound - AMAZING! The guitar SCREAMS at full output and rolling back the volume gives nice chimey-sounding twang. I think the 250k pot in the Silo is perfect for the high output HB pickup. When I move the switch one position forward I get a nice bright spanky single coil sound.
This guitar is going to get played a LOT more now that I made this change.
The guitar looks kind of cool with the black/creme zebra pick up in there. Kind of like a Frankensilo! Never thought I would take such joy in modding my guitar like that. Sorry for the long post just kind of fired up. Can't wait to get home from work and play it without headphones!
