Ernie 5, schaller straplocks. Gigging last weekend and in the middle of the gig the straplock screw broke in the guitar. The screw in the guitar snapped, took a little bit of the wood with it, but Im not too worried about that.
Those schaller screws are about 1.5 inches long, I took out the other screw and if theyre both the same size Ive got over an inch of screw in the guitar and thats about .5 inch in. Its the neck side one that broken. Any idea how to get that screw out or is it better to just fill in and fit another screw down the side of it. I'll take some pics if anyones interested.

2 things,
1. The schallers came with the guitar, Id normally use dunlops.

2. I had to do another hour of the gig standing on one leg while I had the bass propped on the other knee which was resting on my Y frame guitar stand. Sore.

Man, that is really awful. There should not be much tension on it anymore since the head broke off, which is the only upbeat thing I have to say, I'm afraid.

You could get a tapset like maddog pointed out and try backing it out, or you could drill in out. Just get a drill bit a tad smalller than the broken screw and try drilling the center out. It takes a little bit ( maybe 15minutes ) but it's very effective. All that is left is p[ieces you can scrape out with a tooth pick and a tweezer. If had to do it twice, so I know it works. When your done, fill the hole in with toothpicks and wood glue, put your new screw in, and let it sit for a day.

In all fairness please edit your thread title as posting a schaller issue here without saying "My Schaller Straplock has broken" leads people who dont do any farther to think that one of our new straplocks broke...its kind of like posting on Fords site a chevy problem.

Luckily it is wood that the screw is stuck in, from experience working on cars, you just can't glue metal together and sand it easily as compaired to wood...I would do as the others are say, extract the screw and fill the hole...i bet it was a faulty screw hanging on by a thread...it must be upsetting that it happened though:(
