Scratch Under Trem Cover

I took the trem cover off my Petrucci to level the trem and discovered a scratch or what looks like a lacquer blemish approx. 3/8 in. I am not too concerned as it is under the trem cover.

Is this normal?

It may have come from prematurely putting the trem cover on before the finish completely dries. I already have a stress crack about the size of the metal tip of a pen. I really like EB guitars & want this one in particular to last.

Dude, I wouldn't worry about the under the trem plate blem. Doesn't effect anything.

you know i had a paint blemish under my petrucci's strap button that i found when i put strap locks in. its not a big deal you know? i mean... yeah it could be made out to be the biggest deal in the world but it doesnt affect the sound/stability and its covered up by the hardware. i understand your concern though.

Thanks. I'm not so concerned about the scratch itself rather the reliability of the guitar. I don't want it to get worse.

So far I have discovered:

* Stress Crack in the neck pocket
* Scratch under trem cover

All else is seems to be ok.

You shouldn't judge a guitars reliability by finish blems, they happen. I mean seriously.....look at SRV's "big F beater" Number 1. That thing practically had no finish on it. Cracks in the finish by the neck pocket are common occurances on ALL guitars (happens due to the body wood contracting and expanding and the finish not being as easy to give in these situations). A certain company will charge you $3000 for a guitar that comes this way on pupose from their custom shop. If there's a finish blem under the trem cover, again you're not playing the trem springs so people won't think less of you. You should be more concerned with maintaining the neck and the setup, that's where the reliability comes in. Good luck and happy playing.

Don't worry about it! My Music Man guitars are covered in scratches, dents and dings. Not through abuse, just through wear and tear as they are working tools designed to be taken out played and gigged. If you are that worried hang it on the wall and never play it again!
