I have toured for years strictly using stingrays, both pre-and post. In my collection I've had a number of what are considered by most "rare" stingrays. I currently have a "seafoam green",3-band with a maple neck stingray in excellent cond. My question is-around what yr is it,but most of all, just how rare is it? I mean, with this neck and being a 3-band,how many were made? I'd like to know any info on this stingray that anyone can help me with. Thank You!

Hey Dave. That's what the owner described it as. If the finish is original I think EB would have referred to it as some other name. They used to do some special "feature" colors periodically.

BTW, yours is nice.

we need to pull the neck and look in the pocket on the green one...Should be a date and a clue if it is a refin or not! We did spray some pastels during the late 80's...I have seen some Silhouette guitars from this era with seafoam, sonic blue and salmon finishes..

I sincerely thank everyone for the input on my seafoam green baby. The ser# is 30139. It does have old style larger bridge with mutes and a rosewood frettboard with 4 bolt plate on neck and metal battery covery. Tks for your input-I hope this info helps.

I almost forgot-I apoligize that in my original description I said it was a maple neck. Though the frettboard is somewhat lighter for rosewood, its definately rosewood. Tks again.

Serial # 030139
BASS STING VINT SB ROSEWOOD NECK 3EQ
01/23/92

I have checked the 1992 Catalog and the color options were Black,White Natural, Sunburst. Trans-Blueburst,Teal and Red

Premium Colors for Upcharge:

Trans White, Butterscotch and 3 Tone Vintage Sunburst

This bass was originally 3 Tone Sunburst as per normal during the period, the year before the 1991 catalog states special colors were offered, but in 1992 this mention was deleted from the colors section.

Thank you very much for the info. Respectfully, like yourself I've had dozens of stingrays. In no way am I as knowledgeable as you on them. But,I can assure you,in no way is this beauty a refin. It appears to be the same identical color as the one you posted. The bass is in excellent cond with no rash, goughes etc..But,on the back at the bottom, there is one tine chip in the paint & etc..underneath,there is nothing but wood. If I can figure out how,I will post a photo shortly. I also took it to teo very reputable bass/guitar builders. After careful examination, they to said it was an original. Again,I sincerely thank all for the info. I'm still looking for answers, like the year, how many were made with these exact options and just how rare is it? Tks.

A photo of the neck pocket and pickup and control cavities might provide more clues.
