Greetings Forumites!

Some of you may have read my first gig report from last week. Well, I played my second one last night.

It was a Saturday gig, in a lively little suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, called Whitley Bay. Due to work commitments there was no time to rehearse between the gigs. I did manage to run through a few songs though, during the week leading up to the gig.

I arrived in good time. I was pleased to see that the pub was a lot larger than the previous venue. That last gig, we were squeezed into a little corner. I felt a lot more relaxed this time around. I guess that's what it's always like when you've popped your cherry.

Well the time came to step up to the plate, and we started the first set. The place was fairly full and a few people were even looking at us and taking notice, which was good. I didn't make too many mistakes, because I was more relaxed. I did get the occasional feeling, though, that I really wanted it to end. Between songs we were getting applause and also the odd cheer, and at one point a couple of people began to dance, which made me feel good. However, 3/4 way through the last number my bass went dead. I could not believe it. Quick as a flash, I unplugged my Octave pedal from the effects patch and got the bass back, so no big deal and I don't think anyone noticed. I didn't mention in my last report that my Octaver stopped working at the last gig. It's new, I bought it when I got the amp. I checked it in the week and it was fine, new battery I had put in myself, and it worked fine when I got set up. I think I need to take it back to the shop. The other thing that happened, was there was a fight in the bar. It was out of sight from where we were playing, I just saw some people bundled out of the door!

Had a little break, then on to the second set. By this time a crowd of drunken Scousers(a slang term for people from Liverpool) had entered the bar. The background to this is, Everton(a Liverpool soccer team) had played Newcastle United in Newcastle that day. Everton had lost, these guys had obviously been up to see the game. They sat right next to where we were playing and seemed in high spirits. As I mentioned in the last report, I think the second set is a better one. It is more uptempo, with lots of songs people will recognise. Well, these guys were great, they were really enjoying the music, and got up and started dancing toward the end. This seemed to give everyone else permission to dance, so we had a lot of people boogieing on down. That was just the best thing to see. We did two encores and the Scousers wanted us to play more.

All in all the gig went really well. Once more the GK EBMM combination worked really well. One thing I learnt last week from reading these forums was to check that I was in bi-amp mode. I checked before the gig and it was in full range mode, so I switched to bi-amp. I'm not sure I could tell much difference. Anyone got any ideas about what I may be doing wrong.

I'm really looking forward to my next gig in two weeks time.

I had the bass dying experience my first gig. In fact , the whole place seemed whack. Other bands noticed random moments of sound cutting out as well, my guitarsits pedals were all acting up.

Nerve racking experience.

I enjoy your reports a lot; keep them coming!

Really?!!

Thanks, but I don't want to bore the forum with my random meanderings. I'm just totally stoked at how good my bass playing sounds using EBMM products, I really don't rate myself as a bass player, but I think the Stingray really makes me sound good. In fact, a really good musician I know was at the gig last night and he said to my girlfriend, unprompted, "He's a really good bass player". That really made my night.
