I'm sure this is not a big deal, but I'm getting a lot of static when I roll the volume pot up or down on my new Ray 4. I tried cleaning it, but it didn't seem to work so I swapped it for the same one at GC. Second one has the same problem. Probably built on a Monday. Is this common and shoud I have a tech. look at it? Love the basss otherwise!

Did you check your cable that you are using to your amp? Also see if there is a grounding issue at your house.

Doug, I think it's unlikely that you grabbed two basses with the same problem. Play them at GC so you can see if it's the instrument, or a problem at your home.

I know I had an issue a few years back with a bass that started humming really bad if I played a low E open. It only did it at y house though. Turns out my house is simply old and not grounded well.
With the static, also check your input jack. Sometimes that can cause the same issue too if it is loose or again, your cable is worn or a cheaper cable.

It does sound like an issue with grounding or a cable as JayDawg mentioned. Keep me posted as to what you find out.
