I say keep what you have and when you can get both, do it! Just watch, 2012 NAMM, Big Al Roasted Necks with Game Changers. You'll kick ourself and wonder why you sold your Bongo.

I love both of mine. I too want a Game Changer but am waiting to see if it will eventually come out in other models and if Roasted neck is added to it, yeah, I will be selling off other basses (of other makes) if I have too to make the purchase.

Oohh man I don't know, you fit that bongo like trailer parks and string vests! Its something g I never thought you would even consider.

On the other Side it's a discontinued colour and should sell very quickly. But anytime I think of desert gold bass I think of you.

I once sold a stingray on a whim and really regretted it afterwards. I bought the bass back 3 years later !

But and this is a big but I also share your lust for a big al 5 and I can't justify another bass so I am trying to sell a couple of basses to get it.

Later, I've been reviewing this topic, and ( because I don't pay any attention on the signature line) I've discovered that you have 3 EBMM Bongo ;) So sell the damn ****, and buy yourself Big Al. Why waiting ;) As long as you have other two in the house :p :)

I cant vote on this one either ....... The end result would be pretty dam good but moving on the DG Bongo to do it .... neah!

Gonna stand firmly by BOTH and NO don't sell it (its kind of like your trade mark!)

So that settles it... You need to loosen the belt, get a little glutinous and get ok with the idea of a four bass stable. Hey, I'll even buy you another stand!

I tried the BA 5H for a couple of months, and I ultimately went back to the bongo. Even though I really liked the passive setting (and some other tones for that matter) there was that oomph missing from the BA that only a HH bongo could give me. Tread carefully...

That's a tough one. My BA SSS sounds so different than any of the Bongos I've owned that I don't think I could say it could replace a Bongo. My BA is brighter and more complex tonally, but a Bongo is still the king of my stable.

If you have the chance to get the BA before you sell the Bongo, do it and keep the one you like best.
I am sure you will love the passiv options.

Will it be a single H Big Al or the triple S?

Get the BA - SSS, I say SSS as that will give you enormous tonal options, since it's a one of acquisition, you still have two Bongos, or at least one to gig with as I don't know if you gig the fretless. The only reason I traded my BA SSS 5 was due to Arthritis in my hands, ( the xtra 1/16th" width helps me keep the G string on the board ). Build new things, have fun, it's a win win no matter which decision you make. Good luck in your quest.

.... And I am the happy trade partner to receive this SSS. I say go for the BA......But why not the candy red bongo in trade?

You learn pretty fast Eno ;) ...just wanna add, ...if Jack is "Lord Bongo" (and sure it is), ...than adouglas is "Bongo Master", so I'm really sorry if he decided to get rid of any of his ultimate Bongos :(

Adouglas, try not to sell any of Your Bongos if possible!

Get credit, or something  ...or sell fretless one, I'm really gonna miss Your perfect orange "monster truck" Bongo!

Absolutely buy a Big Al. I like the Bongo and I need to spend more time with one, but the BA has such a cool tone it's unreal. More vintage and old school compared to the Bongo IMO.

That bridge pickup is Jaco heaven...

I am biased but I think the Big Al shape is the coolest shape ever.

Big Al...I just got mine last week. My 1st EBMM and I have to say I absolutely love it. The 5 string neck is wicked and so easy to play! Just to help sway you....

Doesn't really answer your question, but I sold this:

and eventually replaced it with this:

No regrets at all. Loved the HH Bongo, but the versatility of the BA preamp (I love the passive option) and the Jetsons styling plus the roasted neck make it work for me.

AD- I would suggest succumbing to your GAS. I absolutely love my BA SSS. It was one of those things where I played it for the first time in the store, put it back on the wall, and within an hour of being home rushed back 15 minutes before closing to buy it because I couldn't be without her.

I've played Bongos and they are tonal monsters. The Big Al has something special too- the ability to melt faces or provide a gentle kiss on the cheek. Honestly for the first month or so I was constantly playing with the pickup selection and passive/active buttons trying to find which sound I liked best and truthfully there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. The SSS in series mode (active or passive) absolutely kills!!! The middle pu in passive is great too for a P bass sound. So, if you can A/B one with your Bongo in a store, that would be the most informative way of making the comparison because at the end of the day you need to be comfortable giving up your prized Bongo and the feel has to be right. Either way, you'll have a solid bass.
