TwAn,

Your Steve Morse Y2D was completed on 12/13/05 and was shipped to DuBaldo's Music Center. This beauty has an upgraded flame top in the D' Purplebust finish. Nice!

;)

Andy,

Not yet. I have the computer folks looking into it, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Dan

Thanks Dan. Do you have any idea on when you might hear back from the computer folks?

So far they have found out nothing more. I'm starting to think that we might not have any more information... :(

I wouldn't think this would be any cause for alarm, though. It likely was as innocent as a repair technician having both guitars there on his bench and unknowingly swapping out the neck plates. Your guitar is obviously authentic, although this is a downer for collectability and resale purposes.

I will try to do more research as time permits.

Thanks for your help. By chance do you think the ship date of the Luke could be the ship date of my guitar? Could that serial number give a general idea on when the guitar shipped?

The build date of the instrument is the day it was completed at the factory, I know I usually have mine shipped out on the same day, so it's a good chance. Sometimes it takes a few days before they ship out, but yes it gives a good idea of when it left the factory - typically within a week :D

Andy, the serial number references a Luke in Pearl Red built on 6/7/95. It is possible that the serial numbers/neckplates could have been switched or entered incorrectly at the factory. Certainly the build date was during a period where both the EVH and the first Luke with the Floyd Rose bridge were both in production. It would be an extremely rare occurence given our extreme diligence in making sure this information was entered correctly into the master database, but it was 11 years ago, and we are only human in a computerized world, so this sort of thing can happen, I suppose. I was looking into how many trans purple EVHs were built, just to give some sort of reference point. There were a little less than 1100 made with the Floyd Rose tremolo. So I guess I'll keep looking......

EVH Followup

5Stringer:

Have you come up with any further information regarding my EVH #81689 trans-black? (re: our 11/22-23/05 posts) I can tell from the sequence of EVH serial numbers that it almost certainly was made 6/92. The exact day is not a big deal to me but I'd like to know that the production of this EVH is verified and the serial # entered into your database.

Also: This guitar needs its pickup switch replaced. Will I be able to get an exact replacement from your customer service dept?

Daarkon,

Yes, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I did some research recently, trying to find information this guitar. Unfortunately a further search has turned up no reference to that serial number.

However ..... there was an EVH Trans Black shipped to Russo's Music in NJ that is too much of a coincidence to ignore. We shipped them a trans black EVH on 7/3/92 with a serial number of 81681. Only one number is different, the 1 was input at the end instead of a 9. There were no others of that color shipped for about two weeks before that. The next trans black after that was shipped to IRC Music in Indianapolis.

The best conclusion I can come up with is that the original work order, which is the entry point for our database, was entered incorrectly at the time. Russo's has never been a huge Music Man dealer, and there is no way they would have taken 2 EVH's at the same time in the same color, or that we could have provided them even if they did as we were 6-8 months backordered at the time. I think your guitar's serial number was entered as #81681 and that guitar shipped to Russo's on 7/3/92 is your guitar. I think that solves this mystery.

An interesting bit of trivia - The Trans Black color was built for the entire run of the EVH's life and for a short time afterward as the Axis. There were less than 600 sold in this color.

Regarding the switch - it is part number M05434 and is available by special order from any Music Man dealer or call us directly at 866-823-2255.

Thanks for being patient!

Dan

Thanks very much for tracking that down. Much appreciated!

By the way, the color on this EVH hasn't faded very much at all. Still pretty black.

I'll contact customer service about replacing the faulty pickup switch.

Thanks again for your help. :)

Dan, I really appreciate all your help. I was looking through the papers I got with the guitar and the warranty form didn't have the EVH as option on it. However, it did have the Axis. I don't know if this helps. Thanks again.

Serial Number: G05270

Could anyone give me the date of birth of my new beauty (even if this is the database thread ;) )?

Thanx

I found it!

Andy,

I found it! This was a case of an inventory database serial number entry error. I should have seen something wrong immediately when it told me it was a Luke, because Lukes in that period of time all had a 5-digit serial number starting with 9, and of course, all of the EVH's serial numbers had 5 digits and started with number 8.

At any rate - here it is - really - for real, I promise - Your EVH was completed on 11/30/94 and was shipped to Guitar Center in Burbank (a suburb of Chicago), Illinois.

The one cool thing about this is - between this and another recent case of a "missing serial number" (see a few posts above), I have learned a lot about how to do my own research regarding this sort of stuff, so I will be better-prepared if (heaven forbid) this sort of thing comes up again. And I have renewed faith in our record-keeping system because there is a way of cross-checking serial numbers. This has been a positive learning experience for me, so thanks for making me do it! <whew!>

Thanks for your patience, and hopefully you will rest easier knowing your beauty is the real deal.

Eep, no sweat, this is the DOB/serial number database thread and the right place to ask this question. The completion date of your Axis is 2/17/99 and was shipped to Germany.
