JP6 Serial#: G37847

Hi. I'm looking at a used JP6 and wondering what the production date is so I judge whether the price at the local music store here is fair or not.

Serial#: G37847

Thanks!

dd, welcome to the Forum - this John Petrucci 6 in Pearl Redburst with piezo was completed on 12/26/07 and was originally sent to Airport Music Center near Buffalo, NY. It does not have the JP shield inlays nor the matching 'stock.

Hope that helps!

Jim, this Trans Gold EVH was built on 9/24/93 and was shipped to the old Musician's Depot in Eugene, Oregon, long gone.

Dan

Dan, Once again you are "The Man". Thanks!

Actually, their name used to be "Keyboard Associates" or something like that in the mid-90's (now there's a great name for a store that sells guitars!) - I believe they are still in business in the Eugene area but are now strictly a piano store and have a new name.

Felix, what makes me think it is incorrect is - this serial number is not in our database. In fact, even the very first Petrucci 7's we made had a higher serial number, starting in the low F04000's. All the numbers I found active around the serial number in the picture are Sterling basses. I would proceed with caution on this one.

Dan

Hey Dan,

my JP7 arrived today and - what can I say? It is 100% genuine, no doubt about that. The craftmanship on it is perfect, the paint job (Mystic Dream) is perfect, everything works... great guitar.

But there are two points that differ from the production models I've seen before:

- no "Music Man" print on tremolo baseplate
- no "Piezo Output - Min, Treble, Bass" on the output jack box (actually, no labels at all on that box)

Plus the early "F03..." serial number you pointed out.

EDIT 1: I found another difference: The battery box is located a bit lower, it is placed more in the direction of the lower strap pin, so the output jack box has a cut-out in the upper right corner (otherwise they would overlap each other). It is hard to describe that, unfortunately, I have no camera with me right now...

EDIT 2: Another difference: The "Made in..." label on the back of the headstock is not in line with the neck, it is angled and aligned with the 5 upper tuners. Plus, the label is printed in golden letters, I thought it is usually printed in black letters...?

EDIT 3: The "John Petrucci" signature is located a bit higher than usual, a bit nearer to the tip of the headstock.

Is it possible that this is a not registered pre-production model, some kind of a prototype?

Felix

Well, Felix, obviously this guitar exists, touching and playing certainly is believing! Are you saying that this guitar has a piezo output module, but just doesn't have the jacks marked - or does it just have 1 jack? Interesting .. this one must have escaped the radar somehow!

It has 2 jacks, but neither the jacks nor the EQ screws are marked in any way. No text can be found on the whole output module.

While it is not possible to tell the exact date of birth, could you maybe at least tell me the year when it was made? I don't know how your serial number system works, but maybe you can tell me when the guitars with the next higher and the next lower serial number were made and my guitar is in between...? Here's the serial no. again: F03457

I assume it was made in 2000-2001 (introduction of the JP models in 2001)?

Thanks for your help!

Felix

I just picked up in a trade a Silhouette, it's translucent teal, hardtail and does not have a compensated nut, it's serial number is 96139, I was wondering if someone could give me some details on this guitar.

extro, welcome to the Forum. The Silhouette HSS you picked up, built on 1/26/95, was made long before we started offering the compensated nut, which was about 10 years later. The Trans Teal finish means it has an ash body. Nice find!

Hi all,

I have a Steve Morse signature in blueburst. Serial # is G26474. I would like to now a bit more about its history.

Cheers from Belgium,
