First of all, I took my new Ray H with rosewood neck to band practice tonight and came away very pleased with the authority this bass gives in a classic rock setting.

I was reading the EBMM set up guide:

How do I set up my Music Man bass?

I've done all my own set ups for nearly 20 years but one part of this guide confuses me, about pickup height:

"If you have a single pickup bass set the pickup height to 6/32" from the plastic pickup cover to the bottom of the G string. Adjust the bass side of the pickup to be level with the pickguard."

The bit "Adjust the bass side of the pickup to be level with the pickguard" doesn't seem to make any sense. What part of the pickup should be level with the pickguard? No part of the pickup seems remotely close on my new bass.

I'm not setting up the Ray but my 15 yr old Sterling is going to get a good fettle.

The pickup should sit as high on the bass side then on the treble side, so straight. No other way to explain.

Thanks, so it means across the pup as it heads to the bass side. It kinda sunk in overnight :)

The word parallel would seem better than level.
