I placed an order with Guitar Center yesterday for a new JP6 (Pearl Redburst, Piezo, Trem, Inlays, Matching headstock). The guitar is at one of their stores in Dallas and will be shipped to a local GC store in TN where I will pick it up. Considering the temperatures being in the low teens at times, should I make any special requests regarding the shipment or handling of my guitar? The only other guitar I've had shipped was in the summer so there was no issue. I don't know what they typically do with guitar shipments or what should be done, so I thought I should ask for a few opinions.

Thanks!

Shipping, Weather, and my JP6

Hey Now,

Good choice, I played that guitar this last December at GC, it is coming from the Dallas store on Central Expressway. Not sure of the effects colder weather has on shipping but I am always more concerned with the handling.

Anyways great guitar CONGRATS!:)

From the weather reports I've seen, it's been just as cold in Dallas as it is in TN.

As long as it's packed well, in the MM case and a little padding, then in a guitar box, it should get to you unscathed. The only thing you'll want to do is let the guitar come back up to room temperature before you play it.

GC does have a very good return policy, so if it does get messed up in transit, call them.

Others can comment on the validity of this, but I never worry about conditions during shipping (as long as it's not banged around excessively). I focus on how I handle it once it arrives. Chances are it will have been in the cold for a long time. I'd suggest bringing it indoors and just letting it sit for a few hours to aclimate before you open the box. Then open it slowly, a layer at a time so it warms up slowly. You want to avoid allowing any condensation to form....

My 2 cents...
